India's e-commerce sales expected to grow 60% to $84 billion in 2021

India's e-commerce sales expected to grow 60% to $84 billion in 2021

Recently, according to foreign media reports, EasyEcom, an omni-channel inventory management and e-commerce solution provider, published a predictive analysis report on the status of India's e-commerce in 2021 at a press conference after studying and analyzing India's online sales data in 2019 and 2020.

According to the report's findings, India's total e-commerce sales in 2021 are estimated to be US$67-84 billion, significantly higher than India's total e-commerce sales of US$52.57 billion in 2020 and US$40.44 billion in 2019.

Subsequently, the study further pointed out that e-commerce sales during the festival period in India have been rising in the past few years, and this trend is expected to continue. EasyEcom stated in the report that despite the months-long lockdown in India due to the epidemic, the growth of e-commerce sales has continued. It is expected that during the festival period alone, India's e-commerce retail sales will reach US$11-14 billion, an increase of 32-68% year-on-year.

Despite the impact of the coronavirus on the global economy, India's e-commerce retail sales during the festive season grew by 66% last year . In 2019, due to the sudden and strict first round of national lockdown, which affected offline services, the total online festival sales that year were US$5 billion. By 2020, India's e-commerce retail sales during the festive season had risen to US$8.3 billion.

In recent years, electronics have become the leading category for e-commerce sales , accounting for 34% of the gross merchandise value (GMV) of India's total e-commerce sales in 2020. It is followed by fashion and apparel (26%), food and groceries (24%), and furniture and appliances (5%) . In addition to this, there is an increasing user base from tier-II and tier-III cities. The report said that by 2021, electronics will remain the main sales category, followed by products in other major lifestyle areas .

Swati Jindal, co-founder of EasyEcom, said : “We believe that total e-commerce retail sales in India will continue to grow during the 2021 festive season, driven by rapid changes in customer preferences and mass digital adoption in the wake of the global pandemic. We expect digital commerce revenues in India to continue to grow significantly year-on-year through 2026 and beyond.”
