Criminals impersonate Shopee to commit fraud, the platform reminds consumers to remain vigilant!

According to foreign media reports, the Shopee platform recently issued an announcement stating that a new type of fraud has emerged, in which criminals claim to be "Shopee representatives" and defraud refunds by proposing refunds.

Currently, Shopee has shared these new scams through its official website and online promotional channels. First, consumers will receive a text message from someone claiming to be a "Shopee representative". The criminals will claim in the text message that they have overcharged consumers for their purchases on Shopee and are asking for a refund. Then the criminals will send a WhatsApp link, which will transfer consumers to the next scam of the criminals.

After consumers visit the link to contact the scammers, the criminals will connect with the consumers through several so-called "programs". In order to create the authenticity of the fraudulent activities, they will routinely ask for the consumer's full name, bank account, and Shopee ID in order to create the illusion that they are real Shopee specialists and gain the trust of consumers.

Afterwards, the scammers will continue to provide "refund project services" for consumers , and consumers will receive a small amount of money in the bank. After completing the above steps, the criminals will ask consumers to participate in "service feedback activities". If consumers participate in the "service feedback activities", they will receive RM150 in return, but consumers need to pay a sum of money first to obtain the RM150 promised by the scammers, but the scammers will disappear after getting the money.

After sharing the new type of fraud, Shopee emphasized that Shopee never hires employees on any information software or platform. In addition, Shopee also confirmed that there is no such job position as "online shopping agent" in the company, and Shopee will never ask for an advance payment or deposit as a condition for cooperating with or working for Shopee.

Shopee advises consumers not to share their personal information with anyone, and to take screenshots of conversations with suspicious individuals and report them to the police as evidence if necessary. At the same time, Shopee emphasizes that Shopee will only provide financial services through the Shopee App and official website.
