The top 100 European cross-border e-commerce platforms are released, and Amazon is not the first!

According to a survey report by Cross-Border Commerce Europe, the European cross-border e-commerce market (excluding tourism), including the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Norway, had sales of 198.5 billion euros in 2020, of which 115.4 billion euros came from e-commerce platforms . In the e-commerce platform sector, Amazon and eBay accounted for the largest sales , 44.3 billion euros and 22.8 billion euros respectively . These two e-commerce platforms account for more than half of the market share.

The agency predicts that by 2025, the sales share of e-commerce platforms in the European cross-border e-commerce market will increase from the current 58% to 65%.

In addition, Cross-Border Commerce Europe also screened the top 100 e-commerce platforms based on sales, SEO metrics, number of countries covered, traffic, business model, brand strategy, artificial intelligence and big data strategy, and customer service.

The top 25 e-commerce platforms are eBay, AliExpress, Amazon, Etsy, Vinted, OLX, Wish, Discogs, Zalando, Uber Eats, Alibaba, Redbubble, eMag, Takeaway, Big Cartel, Abebooks, Grailed, Rakuten, G2A, StockX, Bandcamp, Wolt, Zazzle, Joom and About You.

By analyzing the list, the agency discovered several major market trends.

Buying second-hand goods will become a trend. Currently, OLX and Vinted, which focus on second-hand transactions, have squeezed into the top 10 list. It is estimated that by 2028, second-hand clothing will account for 11% of all clothing people buy. Millennials and Generation Z are important driving forces for the development of this market. Data shows that people aged 18-37 buy second-hand goods 2.5 times more than other age groups.

In addition, food delivery also performed quite strongly due to the epidemic lockdown. Uber Eats entered the top 10 for the first time, and Takeway ranked 14th.

It is worth noting that Zalando is entering the ranking for the first time. Zalando experienced a 30.4% growth in fiscal 2020, with total sales reaching 10.6 billion euros and cross-border sales in Europe exceeding 5 billion euros. In addition, Zalando's active customer base grew by 25% to 38.7 million users. It is reported that Zalando's current goal is to capture 10% of the European fashion market.
