Vinyl records are recovering in the United States, with revenue increasing by 94% in the first half of the year!

In recent years, nostalgia has become a fashion, and among the more typical nostalgic items in the United States, vinyl records can be regarded as one of them. Vinyl records retain the original sound to the greatest extent, and after the precipitation of time, they have a more vintage flavor, thus bringing retro feelings to consumers in the form of songs.

According to the latest research from the RIAA, in the first half of 2021, recorded music revenue in the United States increased by 26 % over the previous year , and retail prices increased by about $2. The research report shows that CD revenue increased by 44% to $205 million, 19% lower than the previous year. Compared with CD records, the growth of vinyl records is more obvious. In the first half of 2021, the revenue of vinyl records increased by 94% to $467 million.

Currently, the best-selling vinyl records on Amazon include Ocean To Ocean, Senjutsu, Let It Be Super Deluxe, SOUR, etc.

The stable growth of paid subscriptions has made a significant contribution to the total revenue of this record, accounting for nearly two-thirds of the total revenue . According to research, the average number of first-time paid subscription members exceeded 80 million , and the average subscription volume in the first half of 2021 reached 82 million, setting a new record. This is an increase of 13% compared with 73 million in the first half of 2021.

Streaming music , including paid subscription services, ad-supported services, digital and customized radio, and music licensing on Facebook and digital fitness apps , grew 26 % in the first half of 2021 to $5.9 billion , with streaming media music accounting for 84% of total revenue in the same period , the same as in the first half of 2020.

The report also shows that in terms of digital music downloads, both permanent downloads and share of total revenue have declined. The value of revenue in the first half of 2021 fell by 6% to $319 million, accounting for 5% of total revenue.

In an era when music is moving towards digitalization and intelligence, physical records have not been eliminated and are still loved by many music enthusiasts. It can be seen that nostalgic elements are reviving and guiding consumption trends.
