Australia Post suspends e-commerce parcel acceptance services in certain areas

Australia Post has suspended its parcel acceptance services for e-commerce in New South Wales, Victoria and the Australian Capital Territory as the COVID-19 outbreak worsens .

Australia Post said 500 staff were now in necessary self-isolation, putting further pressure on its already stretched logistics network . To help ease the already record-breaking high demand , the company has decided to suspend e-commerce parcel acceptance services between Saturday, September 4 and Tuesday, September 7 .

Australia Post said : "We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. Parcel processing will not be suspended and we will continue to make parcel deliveries over the weekend. "

Australia Post executive general manager Gary Starr said customers who ordered items before Father's Day "will most likely" receive their parcels by the end of the week, but it was clear that there were delays in delivery services , the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported .

Starr mentioned that this is an unprecedented period for Australia Post. It will continue to process and deliver parcels and will reopen collection services next week . The company will be able to accept customer orders and prepare for the coming week.

Starr also said that although this will cause inconvenience to customers and business partners, the company does not intend to compensate for the suspension of operations because most logistics services are still continuing. "We have not stopped logistics services, but have only suspended package receiving operations for e-commerce customers."

It is reported that Australia Post has just disclosed this year 's revenue report. The financial report shows that in fiscal year 2021 , Australia Post's revenue was 8.27 billion Australian dollars, an increase of 10.3%; pre-tax profit was 100.7 million Australian dollars, an increase of 87.7%.

The continued growth of e-commerce and strong demand for parcel business under the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic have boosted the company's total revenue, but this has undoubtedly brought unprecedented logistics pressure to Australia Post. It is hoped that it will be able to provide better services to the public after this short adjustment.
