Many places around the world have become high-risk areas for the epidemic, and express delivery time will be affected

Two days ago, international cargo flights at Shanghai Pudong Airport were suspended due to confirmed cases of COVID-19. In the near future, the number of international air cargo flights will also be greatly reduced.

Now, as the epidemic situation in most countries around the world is relatively severe, the Hong Kong government recently amended the regulations to stipulate that pilots returning to Hong Kong from high-risk countries and regions need to stay in Hong Kong for 72 hours .

These high-risk countries and regions include: the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Russia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Brazil, Greece, India, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland, Malaysia, Nepal, the Netherlands, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Tanzania, Thailand, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates.

That is to say, whether it is a passenger plane or a cargo plane, as long as it returns to Hong Kong from the above high-risk countries and regions, it needs to stay for 3 days. The pilots entering the port have to wait 72 hours before they can pick up outbound flights. Therefore, the timeliness of the three major international express companies UPS, DHL, and FEDEX will be affected .

Due to the recurrence of the epidemic, the proportion of flights canceled at domestic airports has reached 60-70%. Now is the peak season for shipments. The huge market demand in many regions around the world urgently requires sufficient shipping transportation to provide guarantees. However, judging from the current domestic shipping situation, whether in East China, South China, inland China, or Hong Kong, the available flights can no longer meet the current market demand . The cancellation of flights and the reduction of flights will inevitably affect the timeliness of air express delivery .

What’s worse is that some UPS agent accounts have changed from unlimited quantity at the beginning to 1000KG or 500KG per day. This has greatly increased the warehouse scheduling time. The goods that could have been shipped in one day may now take 2 days or even longer.

The freight volume has increased, while the frequency of flights has decreased, and the supply and demand relationship has become unbalanced. It is estimated that freight rates will also rise accordingly . Here, the editor reminds all freight forwarders and cargo owners that if you have shipping needs in the near future, you must hurry up !
