UK online sales hit £10bn for the first time in July

On August 18, according to foreign media reports, according to the latest survey data provided by Adobe, the UK's online sales reached 10 billion pounds for the first time in July, setting a new record.

In July of this year, a research organization conducted a questionnaire survey on 1,000 British consumers. The results showed that although the UK had lifted the blockade in July, 40% of consumers still chose not to go to physical stores to buy goods, and 56% of respondents clearly stated that they had no intention of shopping in stores at all.

Online sales in the UK also reached 10 billion pounds for the first time in July. In fact, not only did online sales show a significant increase. Compared with other months of this year, digital spending in the UK in July also reached 64 billion pounds, an increase of 18% year-on-year, and compared with spending before the epidemic in 2019, it increased by 56%.

Adobe pointed out that the sharp increase in digital spending in the UK in July was partly due to the fact that people were still reluctant to go shopping in physical stores and continued to choose online shopping, and partly due to the increase in re-work spending.

The report pointed out that due to the lifting of the blockade, 40% of British people have returned to the office, and among these people, one-third have bought new clothes for this purpose. Data shows that from the lifting of the blockade to the end of July, in just 6 weeks, the sales of work clothes increased by 200%.

In addition, the report also shows that due to the impact of the epidemic, more and more people are shopping online, and online inflation, which has stagnated for many years, has also begun to rise, reaching 2.8% in July (2.3% in June).

Adobe said this marked a sharp reversal in online price inflation, as it had been falling at an average annual rate of 3.9% from 2015 to 2019, while it had been growing since 2016, meaning more Britons were shopping online, a trend accelerated by the pandemic.

At present, online shopping has become a common shopping channel for a large number of British people. E - commerce in the UK is also developing in depth. It is estimated that e-commerce revenue this year will reach 12.8 billion pounds. It is hoped that sellers will seize the benefits of e-commerce in time, make reasonable layouts, and expand the UK e-commerce market.
