Vegan cosmetics sales in the UK grow by double digits

According to data from the NPD Group, sales of premium vegan cosmetics in the UK increased by 28% in 2021. As consumers increasingly turn to " vegan " consumption , they are more willing to buy products that match their lifestyle philosophy.

It is understood that vegan cosmetics are cosmetics that do not use ingredients derived from animals, that is, animal ingredients are removed from cosmetic ingredients. Vegan cosmetics include vegan skin care products, vegan makeup, vegan cleaning products, vegan perfumes, vegan nail polish and other products.

In 2021, sales of vegan cosmetics in the UK were worth £58 million, accounting for 12% of total cosmetics sales in the beauty market. In 2021, 17% of eyeshadow makeup sales were vegan, and 16% of lip gloss sales came from vegan brands.

Compared to 2020, sales of vegan foundation increased by 29% in 2021, accounting for 16% of all prestige cosmetics foundation sales. Data shows that foundation is the most popular vegan makeup product, accounting for 31% of vegan makeup sales .

Emma Fishwick, UK beauty account manager at NPD, explains : “Consumers are increasingly choosing to follow a vegan lifestyle, from food, drink and supplements to clothing, shoes and cleaning products .

From the perspective of sustainable consumption, choosing vegan beauty products will be the next consumption trend . In order to achieve better beauty effects, many luxury cosmetics contain animal ingredients. However, as vegan cosmetics become more and more popular, the luxury cosmetics market has been challenged. At the same time, vegan cosmetics may shape the direction of market development in the next few years. In recent years, major brands have also been planning for the vegan beauty market.

Vegan cosmetics are an emerging market that fits the current trend and will show a foreseeable upward trend in the future. Thanks to the millennials' focus on sustainable consumption, Grand View Research shows that the global vegan cosmetics market is growing at an average annual rate of 6.3%, and is expected to reach $20.8 billion by 2025.
