Domestic smart locks recalled due to risk of being pinched

A delayed exit lock was recently recalled because it could not be opened and posed a risk of pinching.

If it cannot be opened in an emergency, the potential safety hazard can be imagined. After receiving 56 accident reports, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled the product. Fortunately, no casualties were reported. The number of recalls involved is about 2,400.

It is reported that the lock was manufactured in Shanghai and went on sale in October 2019. The price range is between US$1,200 and US$1,400, which is much higher than that of ordinary smart locks.

The recalled locks include an interior and exterior alarm sounder, key switches for reset and override, and a building code sign for single-exit swing doors.

The door installed with this system opens in one direction, and can be opened from the outside with a key. If someone tries to forcefully push the door open without permission, an alarm signal will be generated, but a release delay of 15 to 30 seconds is set , so generally there will be no alarm sound if it is accidentally touched. Under continuous strong pressure, an alarm signal will be generated and transmitted to the control center.

On the other hand, when an emergency such as a fire occurs, the door will open without delay after the system receives an alarm signal from the fire protection system.

Delayed exit locks are more high-tech than general smart locks, and can realize two seemingly contradictory options: "emergency opening" and "no random entry and exit". The application scenario is not our daily family, but generally used for security work, such as warehouses, supermarkets and other large or theft-prone places.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said that consumers who are currently using the product should contact the seller in a timely manner to obtain free replacements and repairs.

Recall incidents are common, and not only in China, but as a manufacturing powerhouse, "Made in China" is also a big label. Although it is an isolated case, it can easily lead to unnecessary misunderstandings and affect the international reputation of Made in China. Regardless of the category, Chinese sellers should put quality first and use their strength to restore the reputation of Made in China.
