During Indonesia's emergency PPKM, sales of blood oximeters increased by 34,900%

During the period of the PPKM , which began on July 3 , 24 products in the e-commerce sector were best sellers. One of them was a blood oximeter, which saw a 350-fold ( 34,900 % ) increase in sales .


On ShopBack , transactions in the health, daily essentials, and electronics categories stood out the most, with transactions for health products tripling and other products doubling.


In the health category, at least seven products were bestsellers during the emergency PPKM period , namely blood oximeters, hand sanitizers, honey, herbs, supplements, eucalyptus oil and vitamin C.


It is worth mentioning that the purchase volume of blood oximeters increased by 350 times. In the week before PPKM, the sales volume of hand sanitizer increased by 13 times, honey increased by 10 times , and herbal medicine increased by 5 times. During the same period, the transaction volume of immune-enhancing supplements and eucalyptus oil increased by 14 times and 7 times respectively.


Since the first three weeks of PPKM, sales of vitamin C have increased 54 times. Shopback noted that during the emergency PPKM, transactions in the daily necessities category doubled. It increased four times compared to the first three weeks. The six products with the highest consumer demand included disinfectant bath soap, baby diapers, pasteurized milk, vegetables and fruits, outdoor cleaners and rice.


In the electronics category, six products are best sellers. Since the first three weeks of PPKM, air purifier sales have increased eightfold ; stand mixer transactions have increased 198fold ; rice cookers have increased 61fold , and irons have increased 55fold .


In the week before PPKM, sales of smart devices increased by 29 times. Similarly, sales of smartphones and tablets increased by 1.4 times.


In the entertainment category, purchases of digital products such as Internet packages increased by 1.26 times ; purchases of literature and novels increased by 19 times ; and online game transactions increased by 5 times .


Galuh Chandra Kirana, general manager of ShopBack Indonesia , said that based on the new confirmed cases in Indonesia , ShopBack expects transaction volumes in several key categories to continue to grow in the coming period .


Indeed, with the changes in the number of COVID-19 cases in Indonesia, people's daily life and shopping needs will also undergo major changes, and future trends will remain to be seen.
