Although the unit price of the emerging electric skateboard is as high as more than US$ 500 , the growth is very rapid. TeamGee, a domestic brand specializing in electric skateboards, just entered AliExpress in May this year, and it has already topped the category ranking in July. The market demand in developed countries such as North America, Australia, and Western Europe is very strong.

 

This year, the successive holding of many sporting events such as the European Cup, America's Cup, Tour de France, and the Olympic Games has set off a sports craze around the world, and it is not just skateboarding that has become popular.

 

According to data from the AliExpress platform, the European Cup, the America's Cup and other events have driven the sales of sports balls such as football to increase by more than 60 % year-on-year , and the sales of various sneakers to increase by more than 150 % year-on-year. In AliExpress's Olympic-themed mid-year celebration, the sales of sports brand merchants increased by nearly 30 % month-on-month, and hiking, camping, golf and seasonal water sports products grew rapidly, with month-on-month growth of more than 50 %. Among the national markets, the Brazilian market has grown most significantly, with GMV increasing by more than 170 % year-on-year and the number of paying buyers increasing by more than 200 % year-on-year.

 

The Tour de France, which just concluded at the beginning of this month, ignited the already very popular cycling sport overseas, driving the sales of cycling products on AliExpress to increase by more than 80% year -on-year. Large items such as electric vehicles and electric scooters doubled , cycling clothing increased by nearly 1 times, and cycling shoes increased by nearly 3 times. Brazil increased by more than 3 times, France increased by more than 1 times, and Spain and South Korea both exceeded 80%. Professional categories with high customer unit prices performed outstandingly, with sales of products above US$100 accounting for more than 1/3 .

"We started opening a store on AliExpress in 2017, with an average annual growth of 60-70 % . In 2020 , the company grew by 150 % , and on AliExpress it grew by 230 % ." Tong Bengang, founder of Xiamen Yuanan Composite Technology Co., Ltd., said. The company mainly produces bicycles and spare parts made of carbon fiber, and the price of high-end products exceeds US$ 1,800 . In order to break the dilemma of uncontrollable overseas raw materials, Tong Bengang and his team independently developed carbon fiber raw materials. The quality of self-developed carbon fiber cloth is comparable to that of overseas big brands. Since starting to build its own brand through AliExpress, the profit margin has more than doubled compared to OEM for overseas brands .

In recent years, the number of Chinese sports brands that have opened up online retail outlets through AliExpress has continued to increase. Brands that are familiar to Chinese people, such as Xtep, Li Ning, Peak, and 361°, have opened stores on AliExpress, digging deep into overseas markets and competing with international brands. This year, Xtep grew by more than 40% year-on-year, and Peak grew by more than 170%. In markets such as Spain and France, Chinese sports brands have been well received, and the fastest growing national market is the recently emerging Brazil.
