Earlier, news about Shein's return to India spread. It will return to the Indian market during Amazon Prime Day from July 26 to 27. The website will also start selling its related products. Amazon even created a page specifically for Shein.
But now it seems that Shein's return has been blocked.
According to foreign media reports, after Shein chose to cooperate with Amazon and Amazon India announced Shein's high-profile return as an Amazon seller, Amazon India was petitioned to ban the sale of Shein-related products in India. The reason for the petition was that the sales of Shein products posed a risk of leaking the personal data of Indian consumers, which is likely to affect their information security.
In response to this, the Delhi High Court has issued a relevant order to suspend Shein’s sales plan in Amazon India’s Prime Day event. Currently, Shein’s official website in India is still inaccessible, which means that Shein’s plan to return to India has been blocked.
The entanglement between Shein and India started last year. As early as June 2020, the Indian government banned 59 Chinese apps on the grounds of endangering India's sovereignty and suspected infringement of user privacy. Shein was not spared and was included in the Indian government's banned sales list, losing the qualification to sell products in India.
The loss of Shein’s profits from losing the Indian market cannot be underestimated!
Many people may not know that Shein, a Chinese fast fashion brand, has one of the highest app downloads in India. In India, Shein's daily active users exceeded 1 million, and the daily orders reached more than 10,000. The related sales and profits can be imagined.
Not only that, Shein also tripled its business revenue in India in one year, which is enough to show the great potential of Shein in the Indian market. However, a ban from the Indian government changed Shein's development trajectory, and it was forced to announce its withdrawal from the Indian market.
However, the enthusiasm of its Indian fans has exceeded expectations, and they are looking forward to Shein's return. However, judging from the current suspension of sales plans, Shein's return is still a long way to go! In the future, whether Shein can return to the Indian market remains to be seen!
