China's independent websites will face transformation under the global environmental protection trend

Chinese independent websites, led by Shein, are mostly positioned in the market for fast fashion products. For a long time, the selling point of Chinese independent websites has been high quality and low price and a much faster delivery speed than similar competing merchants. However, recently, as the global environmental protection trend has gradually gained momentum, the alarming speed of fast fashion companies has aroused public doubts about their environmental protection.

A foreign survey shows that greenhouse gas emissions from the global fashion industry account for about 4% to 10% of total emissions , exceeding the sum of all international flights and shipping. According to the World Bank, the fashion industry uses 93 billion cubic meters of water each year, which is enough for 5 million people to use daily . In addition, the fashion industry's fabric dyeing process also produces about 20% of the world's wastewater ; about 5 billion plastic bottles of microfibers are dumped into the ocean , accounting for 87% of the total global processed fiber input each year .

The survey predicts that by 2030, the negative impact of the fashion industry will increase by 50%, as more and more people are adopting the fast fashion lifestyle : buy fast, buy new, and discard too early . Data shows that people buy and discard about 60% more clothes today than in 2000 .

Therefore, some brands have proposed the concept of rejecting excessive consumption and mainly promote simple, everyday basic styles. This approach has won the recognition of some environmentalists .

The discussion about environmental protection has put the fashion industry at a crossroads. How to choose and transform will determine the future of fast fashion e-commerce sellers . How can sellers balance the relationship between fashion and environmental protection? Can they embrace and build a more sustainable fashion world while developing new trends for consumers ?

In fact, the Chinese mainland market has already given an answer many years ago. In China, the used clothing business is booming. It is not about retro , but about real used clothing recycling . The embarrassing used clothing is becoming a business.

Whether it is JD.com's Aihuishou or Alibaba 's Xianyu, the rise of these second-hand trading platforms has provided China's answer to the environmental protection problems of the world's fashion industry: encouraging the trading of second-hand idle items and accelerating the circulation and distribution of old items on a larger scale .

Under the global trend of environmental protection, China's independent websites will inevitably face transformation, and the utilization of old items may be a new way out.
