eBay Australia launches sports shoe authenticity guarantee program

eBay said it will work with third-party authentication agency Sneaker Con to ensure that the sneakers consumers receive are authentic. The eBay Australia site's authenticity guarantee plan will be launched in two phases: In the first phase, eBay will grant Australians access to "certified" sneaker listings in the US market. In the second phase, eBay and Sneaker Con will set up their own certification agency in Australia. Most importantly, neither sellers nor buyers need to pay additional fees during the certification process.

eBay is currently inviting sellers of sneakers to email eBay and set up an eBay store in preparation for the upcoming sneaker authenticity guarantee program in Australia.

Compared with Amazon, the collectibles market on eBay has always been more recognized and expected by the public. On the one hand, eBay started as an auction website, and buyers are already accustomed to looking for collectibles on eBay. On the other hand, eBay's market positioning has also attracted a large number of sellers to display their collectibles on eBay. Recently, there have been frequent cases of collectibles on eBay being sold at high prices, including Magic cards, sports cards, and game collections.

eBay also realized the high value hidden in the collectibles market and began to make great efforts in the collectibles market in October last year, including authentic authentication services.

Since the eBay US market first launched the Authenticity Guarantee Program in October 2020, the program has been expanding to other countries in the world in various ways. At the beginning of the program, eBay stated that all new sneakers and second-hand collectible sneakers sold for more than US$100 on the eBay US market will be fully reviewed and verified by an independent team of industry professionals.

In January this year , eBay also announced that it would launch an Authenticity Guarantee Program for Japanese luxury watches. Under this program, every watch sold on eBay for more than $2,000 will be sent to experts for inspection and authentication to ensure that the collectible watches purchased by buyers on eBay are authentic.
