Have you got the characteristics of tableware that Koreans like?

Chopsticks are definitely the most commonly used tableware in our daily life, and they are also the tableware that has been used for the longest time . This product originated from China, and was gradually accepted by neighboring Korea and Japan in the process of cultural dissemination, and became the main tableware of these two countries.

But chopsticks become a little different when they arrive in Korea !

Unlike Chinese chopsticks which are long and heavy , and Japanese chopsticks which are short and sharp , Korean chopsticks are relatively medium in length and flatter.

Unlike China and Japan, where tableware is mostly made of bamboo or wood, Korean chopsticks are mostly made of heavy metal . Stainless steel is the main material in Korea , followed by brass and silver, and the prices of the three are different.

Taking a mainstream e-commerce platform in South Korea as an example, searches for chopsticks are mostly for metal chopsticks!

In addition to metal chopsticks , Koreans also use a metal spoon as a standard dining set , and most other tableware is also made of metal. So why are Koreans so keen on metal tableware?

Geography, History and Culture

In ancient times, due to the abundant copper and tin deposits on the Korean Peninsula, Korean nobles traditionally used chopsticks made of brass , although there were also chopsticks made of gold or silver.

But ordinary people can't enjoy these, and they can only use wooden or ceramic chopsticks. However, in the minds of Koreans, metal chopsticks also represent wealth.

With the promotion of low-cost stainless steel products in South Korea after the founding of the People's Republic of China , metal tableware has truly been placed on the tables of ordinary people.

Eating habits

Koreans usually eat soup, rice and vegetables, and pickled food (represented by kimchi) is a must-have on every table. First, it has a strong taste and is easy to taint, and second, it is difficult to clean and is prone to residual bacteria. In addition, Koreans love to eat barbecued food, and if bamboo or wooden chopsticks are used , it will easily get burned .

You don’t have to worry about these problems with metal chopsticks. They are easy to clean, high temperature resistant, and have a long service life!

Although they are made of metal, most Korean chopsticks are beautifully designed . The top is usually decorated with gorgeous Korean patterns, while the end of the chopsticks is often designed with rough patterns to make it easier for the metal chopsticks to pick up food.
