YouTube is testing product detection in videos

The YouTube product team is constantly testing new tools and features to help viewers more easily find, watch, share and create content. These test features are usually only available for a short time and only to a small group of people.

Recently, in a company blog, YouTube said it is testing a new feature in its latest experiment that displays products detected in certain videos and a list of related products .

It is reported that the product detection feature will appear between recommended videos to allow viewers to scroll below the video player, helping people browse more videos and information about these products on YouTube. YouTube also said that viewers watching videos in the United States can see this feature.

In the designated place for recommended products, if YouTube launches widespread product detection features in the future, creators may no longer need to include product links in descriptions.

YouTube and other social platforms have been experimenting with ways to integrate shopping into their content in recent years , a trend toward shoppable content that has accelerated as consumers have spent much of their time at home during the pandemic.

The product inspection feature is the latest experiment to make it easier for consumers to buy items recommended by their favorite influencers. YouTube has already launched a number of shopping features:

Last April, YouTube began experimenting with a “Products in This Video” feature that lets viewers see more information about products mentioned in a video.

Last June, Google released shoppable video ads specifically for YouTube , which include a "Shop Now" button that takes viewers directly to the retailer's website to purchase the item.

In January this year , YouTube tested a new feature with some creators, allowing creators to add certain products to their videos, and viewers can view the product list by clicking the shopping bag icon in the lower left corner of the video.

YouTube regularly launches new features and conducts experiments that can have a significant impact on advertising and shopping opportunities on the platform. Sellers who are working on or intend to make a layout on YouTube should also pay more attention.
