The latest data from the UK's online retail association IMRG shows that beauty and lingerie sales in the UK have been booming during the pandemic.
Data shows that sales of health and beauty products have increased by about 80% during the pandemic , while sales of underwear have also increased by more than 50%. At the same time, sales of hair care products have also increased significantly, soaring by more than 300% as buyers try to maintain their image during the lockdown .
The fragrance category was hit hard in early 2020, with a drop of up to 50%, but partially recovered after the lockdown was lifted in June . By January 2021 , fragrance sales will have further increased by more than 150%.
Data shows that the gardening category has maintained significant year-on-year growth over the past 12 months . As shoppers embark on home improvement projects in the spring , sales of gardening products have increased again by 200%.
Consumers also bought more electronics during the pandemic, with the industry jumping more than 100%.
Since the beginning of 2020 , several areas such as beauty have grown further. Although there was a decline in the second half of 2020, its sales have increased by nearly 120% since January this year , and the momentum is still very strong.
As the pandemic is coming to an end, many retailers are beginning to worry that people will spend less. IMRG surveyed nearly 150 retailers and found that many consumers are currently spending similar amounts to before the pandemic.
It is reported that online sales in the UK increased by 36% throughout 2020, the highest growth in 13 years and setting a new record.
And average consumer cart values actually rose in some categories , with year-over-year growth surging 70% in January.
IMRG also found that during the epidemic, retailers were increasingly able to implement services quickly and provide consumers with a variety of services .
Many retailers are now trying to optimize their fulfillment methods and develop e-commerce so that they can provide continuous service if business is closed again. Brands are also considering their current logistics systems, with many turning to outsourced distribution or controlling their own fulfillment centers.
IMRG expects online sales in the UK to continue to grow and a large number of consumers will continue to shop online.
