Recently, British clothing and accessories retailer Fat Face revealed that the company suffered a security breach in January 2021, and a large amount of information was leaked, including the names , addresses and some credit card information of some employees and customers .
Fat Face is a UK lifestyle clothing and accessories retailer founded in 1988 as a business selling T-shirts at ski resorts, the company has now expanded into menswear, womenswear, childrenswear and accessories, and has expanded its business in the UK and internationally.
In a statement, the retailer said: “Fat Face suffered an IT incident and became aware that an unauthorised third party had accessed some of our systems. Unfortunately, following a specialist investigation, we now know that this third party was able to access certain information relating to staff and customers.
Fat Face said it had informed affected customers and employees of the incident , and that the police , the Information Commissioner's Office and the National Cyber Security Centre had also been notified of the data breach.
“Our team has worked non-stop with third-party experts to contain the incident, keep our systems operational and minimize the impact. Our responsibility to our customers and colleagues is our top priority, and we will continue to invest in security measures to mitigate the growing risks facing the business,” said Fat Face ’s head.
In an email sent by Fat Face to affected customers and seen by TheIndustry.fashion , the retailer confirmed : “Payment card information cannot be used for fraudulent transactions, therefore you do not need to cancel your payment card on this basis”, adding : “No other financial data relating to you has been compromised as a result of this incident . ”
Customers were initially warned that the email was "strictly private and confidential," despite the fact that data breaches are a matter of public record in countries compliant with the General Data Protection Regulation ( GDPR).
