The average American spends $15,000 on skin care! Hand cream may become the dark horse of the year

According to Fox Business , SkinStore.com , a leading cosmetics platform that sells high-end beauty products , released a report saying that Americans will spend about $15,000 on skin care products in their lifetime .

The average American spends $322 per year on skin care products

SkinStore claims that the average American spends $322.88 per year on skin care products , based on data from the U.S. Census Bureau and the Simmons National Consumer Survey. If this estimate is correct, then based on a skin care regimen of 46.5 years, it is estimated that Americans will spend $15,000 on skin care products over their lifetime.

And, according to a report by Grand View Research, the market for acne-fighting cosmetics that appeal to teenage consumers is expected to grow to more than $4.2 billion by 2027. Previously, the market was valued at $2.3 billion in 2020. Meanwhile, the global men’s skincare market is expected to grow from $11.6 billion in 2019 to $18.92 billion in 2027, according to the market research firm .

Hand cream is the most searched for online

In addition to the above growth in the skin care market, SkinStore also pointed out the best performing skin care product categories in 2021. Hand cream is the most outstanding product, and this category accounts for an even higher proportion of online searches this year, reaching 141% .

SkinStore believes that this may be due to the increase in hand washing due to the pandemic, so people need to moisturize their hands more frequently. In addition, SkinStore also emphasized that other trending categories are lip care (+98%), facial tools (+83%), spray (+81%), moisturizer (+77%) and sunscreen (+62%).

When it comes to the most popular skin care products, SkinStore says that in the United States, the top five skin care products are serums, toners, retinol (also known as vitamin A), anti-aging products and moisturizers .

In recent years, the beauty industry and its consumers have shifted their focus from makeup to skincare as the fashion industry favors more natural, effortless looks . And, this trend has continued throughout the coronavirus pandemic, as it is difficult to apply a full face of makeup while wearing a mask. In June, the global beauty market expected revenue losses of up to 30% due to the pandemic.

This shows that consumers are paying more and more attention to skin care. Compared with cosmetics, the skin care market has greater development potential.
