A new round of sweeps is coming! All sellers beware, a large number of goods have been seized...

Recently, a ship stranded in the Suez Canal successfully went viral on WeChat Moments and single-handedly became the new "murderer" exacerbating logistics congestion in Europe. The latest news shows that the Suez Canal has not yet been opened, but it will be open soon!

At the same time, the European customs seizure rate has also increased significantly. According to feedback from freight forwarders, customs have recently strictly checked the names and declarations of all shipments exported to European countries, and goods that do not comply with regulations are getting into big trouble.

After the customs launched "Operation Dragon 2021" to strictly investigate intellectual property rights, the customs has recently begun to strictly investigate the UL mark. A large number of products such as helmets, curling irons, straightening irons, hair dryers, etc. are now being strictly investigated by the United States, which greatly reduces the efficiency of customs clearance.

In addition, according to feedback from freight forwarders, the US CPSC began reforms on March 22, and all products under their jurisdiction will be marked for review.

In fact, congestion at US ports still exists, causing heavy losses to small and large retailers. For example, Nike, which has been at the center of controversy recently, said that its North American revenue in the third quarter of fiscal 2021 fell 10% year-on-year.

US CPSC reform, a large number of products are listed

A new round of crackdown has begun.

According to feedback from freight forwarders, the U.S. CPSC began reforms on March 22. All products under their jurisdiction will be marked for review. The notice shows that all goods entering the United States by air, truck or ocean will be marked for review.

If there are related products, it is recommended to prepare relevant documents in advance, such as CPC test reports, etc.

The product names generally include: children's products (related toys, clothing, decorations, furniture, etc.), fireworks, fluids, prefabricated walls, mattresses, bicycle helmets, engines, batteries, hair dryers, charging cables, bicycles, strollers, holiday lights, igniters, carpets, stoves, scarves and ties, other potentially flammable adult clothing accessories, etc.!

Here the editor also reminds the sellers that in order to reduce the inspection rate and release the goods as soon as possible, sellers need to declare truthfully and prepare all information in advance.

While the customs is still conducting strict inspections on infringing products, all products with the UL mark have been included in the key monitoring list, so sellers should be careful.

According to a freight forwarder's feedback: Customs has recently strictly checked the UL mark, and may continue to verify UL certification for export products in the future, especially for products exported to the United States. It is recommended not to print the mark on products without certification, as there will be a risk of goods being detained during customs clearance!

The freight forwarder further added that all products with UL logo, such as helmets, curling irons, straightening irons, hair dryers and other types of products are closely monitored and risks must be confirmed before shipment. The outer boxes of all types of products must be neutral cartons and must not have obvious logos!

When exporting to the United States, I believe many people have heard of UL certification. The entire American market attaches great importance to product safety. When consumers and purchasing units purchase products, they will choose products with the UL certification mark.

On the Amazon platform, audio-visual equipment, automobiles, electronic components, home appliances, industrial control equipment, information technology equipment, lamps, medical devices, plastics, information equipment, wires and cables and other types of products all require UL certification.

All products are eligible! European sellers should pay attention to the issues of shipment declaration and product name

In Europe, export goods are also being strictly inspected.

A freight forwarder said that the UPS service provider's notification requirements show that they will strictly check the names and declaration issues of all shipments exported to European countries in the near future. In order to improve customs clearance efficiency, their company has required sellers to meet the following requirements:

1. The product name reported in the invoice must correspond to the actual product in the shipment. It is imperative that the declared product name is consistent with the actual product name.

2. The products declared on the invoice must have corresponding product names in the shipment. They cannot be declared too generally (accessories, tools, hardware, jewelry, components), etc. Similar declaration methods are not allowed.

3. If there are multiple product names in a single invoice, any product name declared on the invoice must be included in the shipment.

Taking the UK as an example, a freight forwarder said that they will confirm the information before shipping the goods, and the surcharge for a single box with more than 100 PCS will be increased by 2 on top of the original product surcharge.

In addition, due to the high tariffs on textiles, freight forwarders who clear customs in Belgium basically no longer accept such products. Those cleared in other places are also more likely to be inspected and valued by customs.

According to the freight forwarder, many sellers have had their goods detained by customs due to false declarations. Sellers must fill in the true information when declaring!

The Suez Canal has not yet been cleared, and logistics delays will continue

In Europe, the much-watched Ever Given ship grounding incident has been updated with the latest developments, and the result is: rescue is still in progress and the Suez Canal has not yet been cleared!

The congestion also caused huge losses. It was reported that the Suez Canal "ship jam" caused losses of up to US$400 million (about RMB 2.6 billion) per hour.

Crews are continuing efforts to refloat the stranded container ship and restore normalcy to the Suez Canal, GAC reported on March 25. Two dredgers have been dispatched to assist in the operation, which is still ongoing .

The Suez Canal Authority is arranging for three ships behind the stopped ships to leave the canal and wait for further developments at the Suez Outer Anchorage. It is understood that about 29 ships are waiting at the Suez Anchorage and about 36 ships are waiting at the Outer Anchorage of Port Said.

According to foreign media reports, it may take days to weeks to clear the giant ship blocking the Suez Canal. Currently, at least 160 ships carrying important fuel and cargo are waiting to pass through the blocked waterway.

Dozens of vessels, including other large container ships, tankers carrying oil and gas and bulk ships hauling grain, are backed up at either end of the canal, creating one of the worst shipping jams seen in years.

Thursday's salvage effort involved the use of two dredgers, nine tugboats and four excavators on the canal banks, the SCA said in a statement.

Suez Canal staff said incoming ships will now be anchored in waiting areas in the Red Sea and the Mediterranean, and some shipping companies may be forced to take detours around the southern tip of Africa, which would add about a week to the journey.

It is understood that the freight rates of Capesize ships are currently rising. Some shipowners said that if the rescue work lasts for a long time, it may affect the freight rates of all routes.

Easter, a very important holiday in the West , is coming soon, which means they will have a holiday again.

UPS France: We will be closed on April 5th and will continue to receive goods as normal on April 6th.

UPS Germany: The news is still being confirmed and we will notify you once it is confirmed.

GLS channel: April 12345 is a total of 5 days off, so delivery to the warehouse is not possible.

As GLS has a long holiday, in order not to delay the subsequent delivery, the relevant sellers need to plan ahead to avoid unnecessary trouble.

U.S. port congestion remains, Nike's North American revenue fell 10% year-on-year

In addition to Europe, the logistics situation at U.S. ports remains grim. According to Nike 's third quarter financial report for fiscal year 2021 (ending February 28), in North America, revenue fell 10% year-on-year due to more than three weeks of shipping delays.

Indeed, backlogs at West Coast ports, a global shortage of shipping containers and a U.S. truck driver shortage remain headaches for businesses from Nordstrom to Urban Outfitters to Peloton, and many said they expect those problems to persist into the second half of the year.

What is the latest situation of US logistics? A freight forwarder said that Haipai, Zim and Matsun have fast delivery times. Although Zim's shipping schedule is normal, the unloading of containers is 3-4 days slower than before. Not to mention Evergreen, both fixed and ordinary ships are delayed.

In addition to sea freight, the price of air freight to the United States is still rising sharply. Due to the tight capacity and space on the US route, HKUPS has raised its price on the US route again.

Customs inspections have been upgraded recently, so sellers must remember not to be careless when declaring exports; although the logistics situation is severe, it will eventually be resolved, so sellers don’t have to worry too much ...
