YouTube launches Shorts beta version of "TikTok alternative" in the US market

According to foreign media reports recently, after YouTube successfully completed the testing of its newly developed 15-second short video function Shorts in India, it is pushing the Shorts beta version to the US market .

Last September, YouTube officially announced that it had developed a short video feature similar to TikTok, Shorts, and chose to conduct its first test in India. Data shows that since early December, the number of channels using its Shorts short video creation tool in the Indian market has tripled, and the number of daily views by Indians has also rapidly increased to 600 million.

The Shorts beta version launched by YouTube in India is equipped with basic creation tools. Users can use multi-cameras to string multiple video clips together, record videos with music, and set the speed of the shot videos.

Now, YouTube has also added the ability to add text in videos at different times , and users will be able to sample audio directly from other Shorts for remixing in the future.

YouTube thinks this can help users get more creative with the content they love and find new audiences in the process.

At the same time, YouTube has also reached a cooperation with music publishers to provide users with a huge music library with millions of songs from more than 250 record companies and publishers, such as Universal Music Group, Sony Music and Warner Music Group, for them to use in Shorts short videos. And as Shorts expands further around the world, the number of songs available to users will continue to grow.

In addition, users can access the new player through a dedicated carousel on the YouTube homepage on PC, and on mobile, a new Shorts tab will be added to the YouTube app, where users can watch Shorts videos by swiping vertically .

If YouTube Shorts’ video recommendations prove to be similar to TikTok’s, then this new short video format has the potential to help a new generation of creators stand out and quickly grow their following.

As for the possibility of monetizing Shorts, YouTube said that creators who join the YouTube Partner Program will have the opportunity to earn corresponding income, but YouTube did not disclose any exact details, only saying that it is actively exploring possible monetization channels.
