66% of retailers increase online investment! Australia's e-commerce process is accelerating

With online retail growing rapidly in 2020, two-thirds of online retailers in Australia are increasing their e-commerce budgets this year to further drive business, new research shows.

The findings come from an independent survey of 145 Australian e-commerce companies, commissioned by CouriersPlease.

The study found that 63% of online retailers experienced an increase in sales between March 23 and September 4, 2020. In particular, a third of respondents said their sales had increased by 30%, with 21% reporting an increase of more than 50%. In contrast, only 22% said their online sales were the same as before the pandemic .

As consumers become more comfortable with e-commerce, this is a great opportunity for retailers to further expand their offerings.

Paul Roper, Chief Commercial Officer at CouriersPlease, said : “Consumers are increasingly preferring online shopping and the retail sector is continuing to grow. As a result, online competition will intensify as customer expectations grow , and retailers would be wise to continually refine their e-commerce strategies to ensure they perform. I believe the key area to improve e-tailers’ online strategies is the customer experience, from product search on the website to last-mile delivery. As part of this, retailers can also review and improve their returns processes, including choosing delivery partners that align with their 2021 goals.”

According to CouriersPlease , 66% of online retailers will invest more resources and funds to enhance their online products. In addition, 44% of respondents said they will increase their e-commerce budgets by more than 20%, and another 18% said they will increase their e-commerce budgets by 40%.

Separately, CouriersPlease also reported that 49% of retailers increased sales and promotions, 45% increased social media activity and spending, and 35% improved and optimized their online platforms to better engage with their customer base.

Additionally, 31% said they were communicating more with customers, 30% further stimulated their shopping base , and a further 21% reported an increase in advertising spending.

In summary, most online retailers in Australia have deeply realized the importance of e-commerce sales and have begun to increase investment. It is believed that this will further promote and accelerate Australia's e-commerce process.
