TikTok has a new rival! Netflix launches "Fast Laughs" funny short video channel

According to techcrunch, Netflix officially launched a funny short video channel called "Fast Laughs" on the iOS system in the United States on March 3, which is similar to TikTok's short videos, in order to compete with TikTok for user time.

In fact, Netflix has been testing this new feature in its mobile app since the second half of last year . During the test, the length of the "Fast Laughs" clips ranged from 15 to 45 seconds, but now Netflix says it will not limit the length of the video.

Netflix's "Fast Laughs" channel will allow users to watch, comment or share short video clips of movies or shows to social apps such as WhatsApp, Instagram, Snapchat or Twitter, as well as add the shows or movies involved to the watch list of the Netflix app. At the same time, users can also directly click the "Play" button to watch the show immediately.

When this feature is newly released, users can watch some of Netflix's original comedy works on this channel , including the movie "Murder Mystery", the TV series "Big Mouth", the sitcom "The Crew", etc., as well as performance clips from comedians such as Kevin Hart.

It is worth noting that the "Fast Laughs" channel has been placed in a prominent position at the bottom of the Netflix App page. Users can enter it by clicking next to the "coming soon" label in the bottom navigation menu . This setting not only reflects the great success of this new feature in the early testing phase, but also reveals the important strategic position of "Fast Laughs" to Netflix.

Netflix's "Fast Laughs" borrows the page format of TikTok, including portrait display, vertical video stream, and interactive buttons such as likes and reposts placed on the right side of the screen.

Because the content of short videos may not be suitable for children, the "Fast Laughs" tab will not appear in the children's interface of the Netflix app. In addition, users can also filter video content according to their age.

Netflix is positioning the feature as a discovery tool. Kim Ho, a product designer at the company, said: "We want to give members a fun, fast and intuitive way to enjoy short videos in full screen and learn more about our content catalog."

But even so, Netflix's "Fast Laughs" actually caters to the current more popular trend of short videos, thus forming a competitive landscape with TikTok in terms of user time.
