Development History

-In 1997, Dr. Leighton and Mr. Lewin began exploring the commercial uses of CDN technology.

-In August 1998, Dr. Leighton and Mr. Lewin founded Akamai.

-In February 1999, it launched its first product for delivering real-time traffic information, the pixel buried deep under Disney.

- In March 1999, Akamai enabled the delivery of ESPN's "March Madness" event and "Entertainment Tonight's" "Star Wars" trailer.

-In April 1999, Akamai launched commercial services and announced Yahoo, one of the world's most visited websites, as its exclusive customer.

-In 2012, Akamai's revenue was $1.374 billion, accounting for more than half of the global CDN market.

-In 2013, Akamai delivered a total of 350 quintillion bytes worldwide and its servers received 593 trillion hits.
