Yoshihide Suga said: The state of emergency in Tokyo, Japan will be extended for two weeks

According to the Jiji Press, Japan reported 888 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 65 deaths on the 2nd. Currently, the total number of deaths from COVID-19 in Japan (including the Diamond Princess cruise ship) is 8,026.

Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga announced on Wednesday that the state of emergency in Tokyo and surrounding prefectures will be extended as the infection rate has not dropped significantly . The state of emergency , which was originally scheduled to end on March 7 , will continue for about two weeks .

But initially, Suga was reluctant to postpone it again because many businesses in the Tokyo area were struggling to survive the nearly two-month state of emergency , and Suga was eager to revitalize the Japanese economy .

However, public pressure to bring the outbreak under control is growing , with more than 80% of respondents saying they want the government to extend the state of emergency, according to a poll conducted by Nikkei .

Experts warn that lifting the state of emergency too early could lead to a fourth wave of infections in May.

The heads of states are also worried that once the state of emergency is lifted, it may cause another wave of epidemic infections . In addition, the Tokyo Olympics will open in July, so Suga Yoshihide changed his position.

It is reported that at the end of December 2020, the Japanese government banned new entry of foreigners from all countries and regions in principle, and stopped business exchanges on January 14.

The Japanese government plans to restrict new entry of foreigners in the short term, except for special entry for foreign athletes participating in the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, to prevent the introduction of highly contagious mutant viruses into Japan.

Now, although some government officials have called for an extension to the end of March, Suga said that considering the potential impact on businesses, a two-week extension is the limit.

Vaccinations are critical to Japan's long-term containment of the coronavirus , but the country is already behind schedule and is not expected to start a full vaccination campaign for people over 65 until next month and for the general population until the summer.

At present, the epidemic in Japan has not yet ended, and the future trend is still uncertain. Sellers should pay more attention to the epidemic situation, real-time dynamics and logistics information, and adjust store operation strategies and methods in time to turn the tide in 2021!
