For sellers, some of Temu’s platform policies do not seem to be very “friendly”. If they are not careful, they will face fines and other related penalties. After experiencing the previous rounds of fines and Aoyuan’s rights protection incident, a group of sellers finally chose to leave.
A group of Temu sellers choose to withdraw from the store
Some time ago, Temu launched a new function. Currently, both full and semi-hosting support merchants to close their stores on their own.
According to the official operation instructions, the first step is to select the store you want to close on the account management page. The second step is to click Apply for Close. The third step is to fill in the reason according to the instructions on the page and initiate the approval.
Finally, the seller can complete the withdrawal, and the store will be automatically cancelled after waiting for 7 days.
Before closing the store, the system will also conduct a series of inspections on the store, such as: whether all orders have been fulfilled, whether there are any risk control issues, etc.
Since the new function was launched, it has aroused heated discussions among many sellers. Many sellers have expressed that this function is well updated. Before this, many sellers had encountered the situation of "no way to withdraw from the store".
Recently, there have been a lot of news on social media about Temu sellers claiming to withdraw from the store. Many sellers said that they have successfully withdrawn from the store and successfully received the deposit.
Judging from the feedback given by many sellers, the reasons why they choose to close the stores are actually different. Some of them are because they cannot bear the revenue pressure caused by fines, while some sellers are asked to reduce prices after their products become popular, resulting in a sharp drop in profits.
According to one of the sellers interviewed, he believed that the rights protection incident some time ago may have indirectly promoted the withdrawal process. His previous application for withdrawal had been stuck for a long time, but it was quickly approved after that incident, and he is currently waiting for withdrawal.
Another seller said that he chose to quit the store because of profit issues. It is understood that this seller entered Temu around October last year and did full hosting. At that time, after making several products, he finally came up with a hit product. Unexpectedly, Temu asked him to reduce the price at this time, resulting in no profit margin at all.
After some ideological struggle, I finally decided to leave the market to stop the loss. However, the process of withdrawing from the store was still rather "bumpy", and I was able to withdraw smoothly only after someone "made trouble".
Some onlookers may think that Temu’s momentum in the past two years has been so strong that sellers can take advantage of it. Even if they can’t get any meat, they can at least get some soup, right?
But judging from the feedback from these sellers, their final decision to close the store was actually a helpless choice. If they could make money, who would want to give up such an opportunity?
Temu semi-hosting began to be strictly investigated, and many sellers’ stores were blocked
In addition to those who voluntarily chose to withdraw from the store, some sellers who decided to continue to persevere were passively closed by the platform.
It is understood that some sellers want to do semi-custody but do not want to stock up on goods overseas, so they choose to ship goods through virtual warehouses. They enjoyed a wave of benefits in the early stage, but now Temu is going to take action.
In recent times, a large number of sellers have been caught by Temu due to such issues. If they are unfortunately caught, Temu will give them a chance to unblock their store, but the platform also clearly stated that if such violations are discovered again in the future, their store will be permanently blocked.
The so-called virtual warehouse shipment means that merchants do not really need to prepare goods in overseas warehouses. They only need to place an order and then ship directly from China. However, the logistics track shows local overseas shipment, which blocks the logistics information of the first leg in China.
After all, for small and medium-sized sellers, it is definitely stressful to stock up overseas right from the start, and the virtual warehouse model well solves the sellers' need to test products. Sellers do not need to bear any risks by placing an order before shipping.
But obviously, this is not what Temu wants to see. When launching the semi-hosting model, Temu put forward the logistics time requirement of "2+5 working days" to sellers, which is definitely not possible for sellers using virtual warehouses.
Generally speaking, a seller using a virtual warehouse would have a very high fulfillment rate of 60%, which means that 40% of orders will be delayed. It is no wonder that Temu has recently started to take strong measures in order to regulate the operation mode of sellers in this way.
Industry insiders said that Temu officials conduct abnormal checks on order tracks every day. If no track or abnormal track is found, the payment may not be settled or the order may be cancelled at best, and the store may be directly closed at worst.
Of course, Temu also gives sellers a chance to correct their mistakes. They can apply to lift store restrictions. The specific steps are:
Go to the store backstage to sign a letter of commitment and commit to the following matters: commit to strictly abide by the merchant agreement, merchant performance rules and other agreements in the future, and commit not to commit any performance violations in the future; for all performance violations, the merchant recognizes and accepts handling in accordance with the merchant performance rules.
After signing the letter of commitment, the store can be unblocked after review and approval, but if a similar situation is found again in the future, its operations will be permanently restricted.
Being willing to give sellers a chance to unblock their accounts shows that Temu attaches great importance to the seller group. After all, more sellers mean more resources for the platform.
In order to further strengthen the platform's seller resources, in addition to domestic sellers, Temu also targets local sellers overseas.
Temu invites European sellers to join
In July this year , Temu's semi-hosted service landed in Europe with great fanfare, and announced that registration for its European local stores was officially open.
Among them, companies from EU countries such as Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands have been invited to register as sellers on the Temu platform. The entry conditions are that companies with EU entities, including but not limited to companies in the above countries, can apply for registration.
Compared with cross-border sellers, local European merchants can better understand the needs and expectations of European consumers, and the products and services they provide will be more in line with the local market, thereby increasing store sales and brand recognition.
In addition, Temu also provides strong support policies for newly settled European sellers. In the early stage, no basic fees or sales commissions will be charged, which is undoubtedly a great benefit for new sellers.
In the future, Temu may also change its focus on investment attraction. If the performance of overseas local merchants can indeed support the scale of the platform, the importance of domestic sellers will inevitably decline. Temu Seller Check out |
