TikTok deleted more than 3.5 million advertising videos in half a year due to violation of advertising policies

According to foreign media reports, TikTok released its global transparency report for the second half of 2020 (July 1 to December 31) last Wednesday. The report shows that TikTok deleted more than 89 million videos worldwide in the second half of last year, accounting for 1% of all videos on the platform.

 

Among them, the five countries with the largest number of video deletions are: the United States (11.776 million), Pakistan (8.216 million), Brazil (7.507 million), Russia (4.575 million) and India (3.86 million).

 

According to the report, the following are the most common reasons for video removal:

 

1. Child safety: This type of illegal videos accounted for 36%, and 22.3% in the first half of 2020.

 

2. Adult nudity and sexual behavior: accounted for 20.5% and 30.9% in the first half of 2020.

 

3. Illegal activities and regulated goods: accounted for 17.9%, a slight decrease from 19.6% in the first half of 2020.

 

4. Violent and explicit content: 8.1 % and 8.7% in the first half of 2020.

 

5. Harassment and bullying: 6.6 % and 2.5% in the first half of 2020.

 

6. Suicide, self-harm and dangerous behaviors: accounted for 6.2%, a decrease of 13.4% compared to the first half of 2020.

 

7. Completeness and authenticity: accounting for 2.4% and 1.2% in the first half of 2020.

 

8. Hateful behavior: 2% in total and 0.8% in the first half of 2020.

 

9. Violent extremism: 0.3 %, the same as in the first half of 2020.

 

In addition to the common reasons for video deletion mentioned above, TikTok's 2020 transparency report also pointed out that in addition to account and video deletions , as many as 3.501 million advertisements were deleted for violating TikTok 's advertising policies and guidelines .



As can be seen from TikTok For Business, TikTok has imposed the following restrictions on content posted on the platform:

 

1. Impersonate any person or entity, falsely state or otherwise misrepresent yourself or your affiliation with any person or entity, including giving the impression that any content you upload, post, transmit, distribute, or otherwise make available originates from the TikTok for Business platform;

 

2. Upload or transmit any files that contain viruses, Trojan horses, worms, logic bombs or other material that is malicious or technologically harmful;

 

3. Use the TikTok Commercial Platform in a manner that infringes any patent, trademark, copyright, or other proprietary right ;

 

4. Use the TikTok commercial platform in violation of any applicable law ;

 

5. Accessing or using the TikTok for Business platform from jurisdictions where the content or practices on the TikTok for Business platform are illegal, unauthorized, or penalized is strictly prohibited ;

 

6. Use, display, upload, modify, publish, transmit, update, share or store any advertising materials on the TikTok Business Platform, including:

 

(i) is harmful, harassing, profane, defamatory, obscene, pornographic, pedophilic, libelous, invasive of another’s privacy, racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable, disparaging, or related to or encourages money laundering, gambling, or is in any other way unlawful;

 

(ii) harm minors in any way;

 

( iii) deceive or mislead the recipient as to the origin of such message, or convey any information that is grossly offensive or threatening.

 

In addition, TikTok deleted 6.144 million accounts for violating app guidelines in the second half of 2020 , and deleted nearly another 9.5 million spam accounts and 5.226 million spam videos posted by these accounts.

 

However , content creators who disagree with TikTok's deletion of videos or accounts can also appeal to the platform. Through this right, TikTok has restored 2.927 million short videos .

 

Finally, during the epidemic, TikTok also adopted relevant technologies to automatically detect and delete illegal video content in certain markets, such as Brazil and Pakistan . In this way, TikTok has automatically marked and deleted approximately 8.295 million videos.
