A survey report by marketing company InMobi shows that during the epidemic , Indonesian netizens are shopping and ordering food online in large quantities , and the level of spending in Indonesia's e-commerce sector is higher than that during the holidays.
Data shows that the average weekly online shopping sessions in the second quarter of 2020 were 30% higher than in the first quarter of 2020. This figure far exceeds the number of online shopping sessions in the United States during the same period.
Compared with other industries, e-commerce is one of the fastest growing online industries during the epidemic.
The report pointed out that during the epidemic, in addition to e-commerce, data from some other fields and industries also increased, including online grocery shopping, food delivery, education and online games. It is worth mentioning that nearly 50% of digital consumers in the fields of education, groceries and loans are new users.
The report shows that due to the epidemic , 30% of consumers in Southeast Asia increased their online shopping spending, while 47% of consumers reduced their offline shopping frequency .
In addition to online shopping , spending on online grocery shopping has also increased. The survey results show that 43% of respondents said they often buy food through online platforms .
In addition to shopping spending, Indonesians are also spending more on education . According to InMobi , education apps in Indonesia grew 80% in just two quarters . At the same time, consumer spending on online games is also rising . InMobi pointed out that the growth rate of the industry in Indonesia reached 26% , ranking third after India and Russia .
InMobi said that overall, the gaming industry has grown rapidly in 2020, with the total number of global players reaching 2.7 billion. In the first week of the second quarter of 2020, online game downloads exceeded 1.2 billion , breaking the historical record, and the average weekly download rate throughout the quarter was 1 billion, a year-on-year increase of 20 %.
