Russians spend 50% more time on shopping apps

Recently, Liftoff collaborated with mobile data analysis platform App Annie and mobile application platform Poq to release a new mobile app shopping report.

The report analyzes the download, installation and usage of global mobile shopping programs from June 1, 2020 to June 1, 2021. According to the report, the COVID-19 pandemic has pushed online shopping applications to a high level of activity, and this activity has not subsided so far.

Consumers are spending significantly more time on online shopping apps . Since January 2020, the time spent by global users on online shopping apps has increased by 49%, reaching nearly 18 million hours of usage per week in April 2021.

From a regional perspective, the fastest growth in time spent on online shopping apps is in the Asia-Pacific region, followed by the Americas, Europe and the Middle East. Among them , Russia has the most significant growth rate, with users spending 50% more time on online shopping apps than last year .

Even as offline stores reopened following the global economic recovery, shopping using mobile apps remained at a fairly high level. The study showed that online purchases on shopping apps grew 30.1% from January to May this year.

Another key data in the report is that Android is replacing iOS as the main online shopping platform. In May 2021, Android users spent a total of 2 billion hours per week on mobile shopping apps, an increase of 51% over the same period last year.

Demand for mobile shopping continues to grow even as physical stores reopen , demonstrating that this is not a short-term trend but a new reality,” said Mark Ellis, co-founder and CEO of Liftoff.

“While offline stores are reopening their doors to customers, we still predict that mobile shopping apps will continue to gain traction and will be a key factor in retailers’ future benefits,” said Sam Yang, global vice president of regional operations at App Annie.

Online shopping is becoming more and more popular among consumers. Especially in Russia, e-commerce is booming. Sellers can learn more about relevant information and seize the market opportunities by taking advantage of this momentum.
