Carrefour's Supeco launches e-commerce discount website

Recently, French large supermarket Carrefour announced that its subsidiary Supeco has launched an e-commerce website.

It is understood that the products sold on the Supeco e-commerce platform are divided into two categories: temporary discounts and permanent discounts with the "Yapu Yapu" logo. The product categories include five major categories : home furnishings, beauty products, high-tech & leisure toys, baby products and garden DIY products .

Through the Supeco e-commerce platform, customers can browse and purchase goods online, and before payment, they only need to click the "click & collect" option to pick up the goods at the nearest store. Currently, Supeco has six stores using the e-commerce platform, and plans to increase its number to more than 50 in the future by expanding to Romania and Spain .

It is reported that, like many European countries, during the second lockdown in France, the government announced a ban on retailers from selling all non-essential items, including any flowers, toys, clothes, household appliances and cultural products (books, CDs, etc.). This is a heavy blow to retailers, especially Carrefour, a large supermarket that mainly operates offline stores.

Supeco , a full-category supermarket store, opened its first store in 2017. Its main operating model is between discount stores and spot self-carrying. At present, its sales business has covered major European countries such as the UK and France, providing low-priced products to individual consumers and retailers. It is expected that by the end of 2021, Supeco will have more than 50 stores, and its strong warehouse capacity is helping to rapidly develop its e-commerce business.

On November 9, 2020, Supeco officially decided to develop an e-commerce website with the concept of "discounts". However, the challenges it faces are huge, because the store needs to implement a series of steps such as receiving online orders, sorting inventory, customer service, and back-end operations, and even needs to mobilize inventory and delivery of 51 stores as much as possible. During this period, Supeco also trained employees in digital marketing and product classification.

As expected, after three months of hard work, Supeco's e-commerce website was finally successfully launched. The head of Supeco said that in the future, the e-commerce platform will be opened to Romania and Spain.
