23andMe was founded by Anne Wojcicki, the sister of Susan Wojcicki, CEO of Google's video business YouTube, and the ex-wife of Sergey Brin, co-founder of Google and president of Alphabet.

 

Products and Services

  • When you mail your saliva and $99 to 23andMe, you get an online DNA report that tells you your ancestral origins. The report will show you the mix of your ancestry, including the proportion of European, African, and Asian ancestry, and then place your ancestors in a specific region of a continent;
  • You can also choose to submit your DNA data for genetic research. Generally, people who agree to submit their DNA can participate in more than 230 studies, mostly focused on finding treatments and cures for diseases.
