The Czech National Bank (CNB) is the central bank of the Czech Republic, the regulator of Czech financial markets and the Czech resolution authority.

About the Czech National Bank (CNB)

It was established under the Constitution of the Czech Republic and carries out its activities in accordance with Act No. 6/1993 Coll. on the Czech National Bank, as amended.

The Czech National Bank strives to keep inflation low, stable and predictable. It achieves its 2% inflation target by setting interest rates and other monetary policy instruments. The bank's Board of Directors decides on these policies based on macroeconomic forecasts and an assessment of risks and uncertainties.

The National Bank is the supervisory authority for the financial markets in the Czech Republic. It sets rules that safeguard the stability of the banking, capital markets, insurance and pension scheme industries. It regulates, monitors and, where appropriate, imposes penalties for non-compliance with these rules.

Payment

The CNB contributes to the development of draft legislation in the field of payments and settlements between banks, foreign bank branches and credit unions. It promotes smooth and efficient payments and contributes to the safety, soundness, efficiency and development of the payment system.

The National Bank is the resolution authority for banks, credit unions and certain investment companies in the Czech Republic. Resolution is the restructuring of an institution in order to ensure the continuity of its key functions, minimize the impact on the economy and the financial system and restore the full or partial viability of the institution.

The National Bank compiles and publishes statistics within its mandate, in particular monetary and financial statistics, balance of payments statistics, supervision statistics, financial account statistics, general economic statistics and government finance statistics. These statistics are compiled in accordance with international and EU standards and the relevant requirements of European supervisory authorities.
