Local sellers hit a record low, but Chinese sellers are still the "leader" of Amazon.com

As the most competitive "battlefield" for cross-border e-commerce, the US market has always attracted much attention. According to foreign media reports, the market share of US sellers on Amazon is being taken away by sellers from other countries, and currently accounts for less than 50% of the total number of sellers.

According to Marketplace Pulse , only 48% of the top third-party sellers on Amazon in the United States are American companies, the lowest level ever. In March last year, the figure was 55%.

It is reported that the reason for analyzing the top-ranked sellers is that they represent the main share of GMV, and as a group, they are more valuable for reference than all sellers.

Compared with sellers from other countries, most sellers on the US Amazon market are from the US and China. Over the years, Chinese sellers have been increasing their share of the US-Asia market until November 2020, when US sellers reversed the dominance of Chinese sellers in the US-Asia market and began to increase their market share due to the epidemic blockade, supply chain issues, seller suspensions and Amazon FBA inventory restrictions.

This reversal stopped in March 2022, and Chinese sellers began to gain the upper hand again. Since then, Chinese sellers have continued to regain market share and have set new highs in recent months.

Although Amazon shut down hundreds of major Chinese sellers in 2021, and the emergence of emerging markets such as shein and Temu has given sellers more options, Chinese sellers have not given up on Amazon.

In order to achieve better sales, most sellers in China use Fulfillment by Amazon to store and deliver goods. This also qualifies their products for the Prime label and gives them better placement on search pages.

According to reports, even in the "difficult period" from November 2020 to March 2022, Amazon's GMV is still the largest among all e-commerce platforms. The situation of "Made in China, Sold on Amazon" will continue.

In addition, according to eCommerceDB's forecast earlier this year, by the end of the year, the GMV of Chinese sellers in the Amazon market will reach US$238 billion, accounting for 28% of Amazon's total GMV.
