In recent days, as Amazon's US site was holding Labor Day promotions and offering huge discounts on various products ( August 26 to September 3), a technical failure occurred in the checkout system of its website, preventing many users from completing their purchases.
It is understood that from around 1 pm on Friday, some users began to report problems with Amazon's checkout page. When trying to continue checkout, many people encountered an error page with a dog photo. Despite repeated attempts by shoppers, they were still unable to place an order.
Some users were able to access the checkout system and place their orders around 3 p.m., while some users on Reddit and elsewhere said the issue continued as of evening.
On Downdetector, a site that tracks online outages, a surge in reports of the checkout outage from users across the U.S. began around 1 p.m. PT on Friday, when the volume leveled off but began to increase significantly in the evening.
It is reported that users on social media platforms such as Reddit and X also shared their experiences, such as "Unable to purchase discounted products due to a malfunction" and "Att Amazon to resolve checkout issues", and various frustrations were obvious.
Amazon Web Services did not report any technical issues when the checkout function was down, but its customer support portal acknowledged the problem, saying: "There is currently a technical issue that is preventing orders from being placed. We are working hard to find a solution. We recommend that you try again later. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause."
Amazon has not yet given a detailed explanation for the specific cause of the failure.
Considering that many companies rely on the market-leading public cloud, AWS outage could cause problems for the entire internet. In addition, high traffic during the Labor Day promotion period may also have been one of the reasons for the technical failure.
Industry insiders pointed out that this checkout failure is very risky for Amazon, because more than 40% of the company's net sales come from online stores, more than $55 billion in the second quarter of this year, so every minute of interruption may cause the company to lose millions of dollars in sales.
At the same time, users expect e-commerce giant Amazon to have a reliable and seamless shopping experience, especially during major sales events, so "frequent bug incidents" are likely to damage its reputation.
For users, Labor Day weekend is a prime time for sales, and Amazon discounts are very attractive to them , but this checkout outage prevented many people from enjoying the discounts.
In addition, such incidents are a heavy blow to sellers, as they will cause them to lose a large number of orders. In my opinion, sellers may wish to study and understand various technical problems that may occur on the Amazon platform in advance to enhance their ability to respond and resist risks , thereby reducing unnecessary losses caused by panic. |
