In early 2017, Amazon added a novel feature to its Prime members: Outfit Compare, which can evaluate users' outfits and is mainly aimed at Prime members.
About Outfit Compare Currently, this tool has been opened in the iOS version of the Amazon App. Users can find it and open it through the "Hidden Menu-Programs and Features". The Android version has not yet been launched.
Location The "Outfit Compare" feature can be found under "Programs and Features" in the sidebar navigation of the latest version of the Amazon App.
How to use Prime users can upload two photos of themselves wearing different styles of clothes, wait a few minutes, and then receive a response from the system, telling them which outfit looks better. Amazon claims that the scoring results are based on factors such as the fit, color, style, and current fashion trends, and are operated and scored by a "team of fashion experts." Amazon recommends that users upload photos of themselves in the same pose and background, and also supports full-body mirror selfies. Each outfit is given a Style Scale score, which offers ratings like "Definitely Pick This One!", "We Like This Better", and "It Was A Close Call". If users want to obtain an accurate overall score, they need to upload a full-body photo "from head to toe". It is impossible to get a score based on a head shot alone.
Privacy issues Amazon promises that only internal staff can see these photos, and photos stored in the cloud can also be deleted by users. For some privacy-sensitive people, if you don't want anyone to see your photos through the program, the safest way is not to use this new feature.
User response After some user tests, Outfit Compare actually works quite well. Whether it's a simple T-shirt pattern comparison or a suit and sweatshirt comparison, Outfit Compare can give quite pertinent suggestions. In addition, the tool seems to be used only to identify clothing, and does not pay attention to whether the scoring object is the same person. In other words, even if one of the two pictures uploaded by the user is a celebrity red carpet photo, this tool will still only score based on clothing matching.
Reason for launch Outfit Compare is indeed an interesting tool, but the exact reason why Amazon developed it is still unknown. Although Amazon will not force some clothing links through this tool to guide users to consume, it is hard to believe that Amazon has no other intention but to develop a tool to entertain users. Some industry insiders analyzed that the main reason for Amazon to launch this tool is to collect user data and improve the products of fashion brands on its platform. |
