“Black Friday” is coming, Cainiao’s first-leg import “sale in transit” supply chain solution is here

"Thanks to the in-transit sales feature, my goods were able to catch up with the Double 11 promotion!"

The "Double 11" promotion has come to an end, and the Black Friday promotion is about to start, which will become another supply chain test for import merchants. Since the temporary transfer of cross-border goods from overseas to China takes a long time and has many uncertainties, especially with the popularity of live e-commerce, the sales volume of goods fluctuates greatly, increasing the uncertainty of import goods stocking. Therefore, how to urgently replenish overseas stocks during the promotion period has become a major challenge for import merchants.

Relying on Cainiao's highly certain import freight capacity, Tmall Global and Cainiao recently jointly launched the "in-transit sale" supply chain solution for the first leg of imports, allowing import sellers to "continue selling even when there is a shortage of stock", thereby significantly increasing product sales.

It is understood that this function will first be piloted for Tmall International merchants who open stores after April 1, 2023.

That is to say, any new Tmall Global merchant who uses Cainiao Import First-leg + Port-to-Warehouse Transport can apply to Tmall Global for the first-leg "Sale in Transit" for goods in transit from Europe, America, Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, China, etc. when the inventory is insufficient. Merchants who successfully apply can put pre-sale goods on the shelves in advance without interrupting sales, and consumers can search and order goods normally .

At the same time, Cainiao will accurately estimate the delivery time based on the intelligent supply chain forecasting system, historical replenishment data and full-link tracking, and rely on Cainiao's highly controllable import transportation resources to ensure that the goods are delivered within the promised time. If the goods are delayed due to Cainiao, Cainiao will make corresponding compensation.

Canvas is an Australian skincare brand that specializes in natural organic essential oils . Several of its essential oils sold out during the first wave of Double 11 promotions this year. Xiao Huan, the store's supply chain replenishment manager, urgently replenished the stock from Hong Kong, but because the upstream supplier could not prepare the stock until November 10, under normal delivery conditions, it could not catch up with the second wave of promotions that started at 8 pm on November 10.

Cainiao Import Freight and Tmall Global Supply Chain Team urgently assisted merchants in applying for "inventory pre-sale" so that the hot-selling essential oils in transit could be put on sale in the second wave of the promotion. "Thanks to Cainiao and Tmall Global's first-leg sale, we have increased our income," said Xiaohuan, the person in charge of replenishment in the Canvas e-commerce supply chain happily.

Coincidentally, the star product "Skin Care Liquid Foundation" of liht Laiying Overseas Flagship Store also encountered the same problem during this Double 11. The new product from Singapore could not be put into the warehouse and put on the shelves before the second wave of promotions, which made Mr. Liang, the head of store operations, very anxious. After he handed the goods to Cainiao Import Freight, the team provided a one-stop service from the first leg of transportation, port to warehouse and customs clearance, and inventory application, and the whole link was digitalized and traceable.

"I almost gave up on this batch of goods, but thanks to the in-transit supply chain solution, I was able to earn hundreds of more orders during this Double 11 shopping festival," Mr. Liang said excitedly after seeing the store's huge sales.

It is understood that as the world's largest cross-border e-commerce logistics company, Cainiao's global smart logistics network covers more than 200 countries and regions. In fiscal year 2023, Cainiao handled more than 1.5 billion cross-border parcels, serving 133 million cross-border consumers and more than 100,000 merchants and brands.
