Recently, cash back website TopCashback.com conducted an interesting survey of nearly 1,800 American adults. The results showed that more than half (53%) of Americans said that shopping for gifts is the most stressful part of the holiday season.
I don’t know if this is the reason, but in the Shopify-Gallup survey, more than a quarter (28%) of consumers said they would consider starting shopping earlier than before. Nearly half of young people (48%) said they would definitely move up their shopping time.
Specifically, more than 40% ( 41%) of consumers said they plan to start shopping before November, and nearly 60% (69%) said they would start in November or December. Among those who plan to start shopping earlier, 24% even said they started shopping in September, and another 17% started shopping in October; among those who plan to shop later, 39% said they would start processing their shopping lists in November, and only 20% planned to start shopping in December. Gallup said that although Black Friday and Cyber Monday are the most watched events of the entire holiday shopping season, many people start buying gifts long before Black Friday and Cyber Monday, so they recommend moving holiday deals and promotions forward. Gallup also found in the survey that 93% of consumers plan to buy holiday gifts online this year, of which 41% said they would buy most of their gifts online, and 6% planned to buy all of their gifts online. The survey also showed that the groups planning to shop online the most this holiday season are high-income consumers (people with an annual household income of more than $100,000, accounting for 55%), adults aged 30 to 49 (55%), and parents of young children (54%).
In addition, among products with the same or similar quality, functions and prices, 39% of consumers said they would consider better delivery and fulfillment experience (for example, free delivery, delivery on the same day of purchase, faster delivery). Another 23% of respondents said they would give priority to supporting local or small businesses, 16% of respondents said they valued discounts more, and another 14% said they valued product reviews more.
In another telephone poll conducted at the same time, 55% of consumers said they expect to spend the same amount on holiday gifts this year as last year, only 26% will spend less, and 19% plan to spend more. Among them, young shoppers aged 18 to 29 are more likely to say they plan to spend more on gifts this year, with 41% planning to spend the same as last year and 37% planning to spend more.
