No one could have predicted that ChatGPT would quickly set off a trend in the cross-border circle. During the cold winter of cross-border e-commerce, many sellers were eager to find ways to reduce costs and increase efficiency, and the emergence of ChatGPT gave them hope.
ChatGPT remains popular. Will the cross-border industry also take advantage of this opportunity to launch an AI revolution? What changes will cross-border e-commerce experience as a result of ChatGPT? Mao Hongbo, CTO of Jikeyin ( a wholly-owned subsidiary of Jihong Holdings ) , expressed his views on this.
ChatGPT has exploded with great sales and has tasted the sweetness
As more and more cross-border sellers begin to connect to ChatGPT, the importance of this application to the future development of cross-border e-commerce companies is self-evident.
In Mao Hongbo's view, the emergence of ChatGPT is a revolutionary event . It will become a catalyst for the rapid development of artificial intelligence applications and have a profound impact on all aspects of our lives. Therefore, as early as January this year, Jikeyin's parent company Jihong Co., Ltd. began to access the GPT3.0 API and applied it in multiple scenarios. To date, Jihong Co., Ltd. has achieved many results after accessing ChatGPT :
1. Product selection: helped the company launch more than 10,000 new products ; 2. Product images: processed more than 20,000 image materials , covering more than 50 product categories of the company ; 3. Customer service: We have handled more than 100,000 customer chats and soothing conversations , saving 1,000 customer service hours ; 4. Product association: We have discovered 1.5 million ( 10 times the e-commerce demand ) relationships among tens of millions of products . 5. Advertising: We have generated more than 70,000 new advertising copy , and extracted more than 150,000 new e-commerce concepts through NLP-related technologies .
As a big-selling independent site, Jihong Co., Ltd.'s business model requires very high digital operation capabilities. Therefore, it has been building its own AI team and has spared no effort in exploring and developing AI applications.
It is reported that Jihong Holdings has invested nearly 2 million yuan in ChatGPT . Not long ago, OpenAI launched GPT -4, which has been upgraded to analyze images and a wider range of texts up to 25,000 words. At the end of March, Jihong Holdings stated on the investor interaction platform that it had submitted an application for access to the new plug-in.
It is not just Jihong Holdings. Cross-border sellers such as Huakai Yibai, Giant Star Technology, Hanwang Technology, Anker Innovations, and Lechuang Holdings have also entered the market to test the waters. An investor said that e-commerce companies that are the first to cooperate with OpenAI plug-ins in the future are expected to achieve large-scale revenue growth.
In this regard, Mao Hongbo also believes that big sellers with certain technical strength should actively explore the application scenarios of ChatGPT to reduce costs and increase efficiency, empower their businesses, and use the capabilities of ChatGPT to widen the gap with their competitors.
Will ChatGPT lower the threshold for cross-border transactions? Sellers: Maybe in the future
After ChatGPT became popular, many cross-border sellers reaped the benefits from it.
A seller once shared on a social platform that he used ChatGPT to complete the entire process from "product selection → listing → order placement " in less than three days, and within a week, the sales growth rate of new products exceeded that of the best-selling products in the store.
Another independent website seller said that he used ChatGPT to write 200 blog posts a day, and "the efficiency was far better than the operation."
The high efficiency and low cost brought by ChatGPT have attracted more and more cross-border practitioners . " How to promote new products on Amazon , how to optimize listings, how to select products, how to deal with Amazon policies ... " Almost all cross-border doubts can be answered by ChatGPT , and the quality of the answers is not low .
ChatGPT can complete the relevant instructions by just making a request , saving time, effort and worry. For a time, it became a "magic weapon" in the eyes of cross-border sellers.
Foreign media have previously reported that some sellers use ChatGPT to write books, which only takes a few hours from conception to publication and can be sold on e-commerce platforms .
"ChatGPT has already had an all-round impact on the cross-border e-commerce circle. Its efficiency is amazing. There will be a large number of unemployed people in operations, art design, customer service and other positions in the future . " An Amazon seller recently lamented on social media.
Judging from the various usage sharing, ChatGPT seems to be really "all-powerful" . If this trend continues, will practitioners in the cross-border circle really face the crisis of being replaced in the future?
Mao Hongbo disagrees with this statement. He believes that the current ChatGPT mainly plays an auxiliary role in cross-border work, and many application scenarios cannot completely replace manual labor at present, because ChatGPT still has many limitations in vertical fields and applications with high real-time information requirements .
As for the voices in the industry such as "ChatGPT will lower the threshold of the cross-border industry" and "In no more than one year, cross-border companies will include proficiency in ChatGPT as a recruitment requirement", Mao Hongbo also believes that there is a suspicion of exaggeration. "At least for now, ChatGPT will not have much impact on the cross-border threshold, but as the technology and application of ChatGPT become more and more mature, there will definitely be many standardized plug-ins, SaaS, APPs, etc. to lower the threshold of the cross-border e-commerce industry."
The big guys jointly called for a halt , but ChatGPT is still running wild
Less than two months after its launch , ChatGPT had over 100 million registered users, becoming the fastest growing application . After its popularity in January, it received billions of dollars in financing. Today, ChatGPT has set off a huge wave in various fields around the world. In this huge wave, the energy of artificial intelligence transformation triggered by ChatGPT is gradually being released.
At this critical juncture, a joint letter from 1,784 industry leaders including Musk, Apple co-founder, and Turing Award winners was released online, calling on all artificial intelligence laboratories to suspend the development of systems more powerful than OpenAI's newly launched GPT-4 for six months .
In addition, Europol stated that advanced artificial intelligence such as ChatGPT has ethical and legal deficiencies , and the US technology ethics organization CAIDP asked the FTC to ban OpenAI from releasing GPT-4 because it poses risks to privacy and public safety.
Although opposition voices are gradually rising, it has not affected the rapid development of ChatGPT.
It is understood that Microsoft Bing Chat , which is built on OpenAI's latest GPT-4 language model , has inserted advertisements in the AI chat box . Microsoft Vice President Yusuf Mehdi also said that he is "exploring the placement of advertisements in Bing Chat" and hopes to "share advertising revenue with partners who contribute content to Bing."
ChatGPT has already started to sell goods, and most sellers have also reported that ChatGPT is helpful for cross-border work. It is constantly updating to expand its scope of application, bringing more convenience to cross-border work . In the future, will the use of ChatGPT become inevitable in the field of cross-border e-commerce?
Mao Hongbo believes that it should not be the case. "ChatGPT is just a case of the general large language model. Although it can find many application scenarios in the field of cross-border e-commerce, it is not ruled out that there will be large models that are more suitable for the e-commerce field in the future. At that time, it will have a very profound impact on cross-border e-commerce and may subvert the existing shopping methods."
In addition, Mao Hongbo also said that the deeper the application of artificial intelligence such as ChatGPT, the greater the chances of sellers winning in the market .
What kind of impact can ChatGPT bring to cross- border e-commerce? Is it more suitable for general sellers or vertical sellers? How can sellers take advantage of ChatGPT to move faster and more steadily in the cross-border race?
On April 11, at the 2023 Sixth Cross-border E-commerce Network Marketing Conference hosted by Ennet, Mao Hongbo, a senior seller in the industry , will share more about the possibilities of artificial intelligence such as ChatGPT in the field of cross-border e-commerce.
