In the United States, it is generally believed that Temu's main competitor is Wish. Most of the products on their platforms are priced relatively low, and the logistics time is usually about one week.

 

For example, Temu’s most popular footwear product is a pair of $3.99 slippers, which sold more than 30,000 pairs. The same product, which is similarly priced, can be found on Wish, but costs more than $15 on Amazon.



As early as 2018, American freelance writer Alana Semuels wrote: "If you can buy a $4 swimsuit made in China, why buy a swimsuit made in the United States that costs ten times more? In addition, if you can buy cheap products directly from Chinese sellers, why buy Chinese goods imported by retailers like GAP? " SHEIN has taken this concept to the extreme and has become the most successful brand in this field.

 

On Monday, October 17, Temu topped the list of shopping apps downloaded on the Apple App Store, even ahead of Amazon, SHEIN and Walmart. For more than a week, it has been in the top ten downloads on Apple and Android app stores.

 

According to industry insiders, Temu's rapid rise has been driven almost entirely by advertising, and the shopping app has not yet become popular on social networks.

 

Foreign media believes that few new apps can make it to the download list of shopping software . Over the years, this list has remained basically unchanged - Amazon, Walmart, Target, eBay, Nike and Etsy. Although the ranking does not reflect retention rate (Wish has been the most downloaded app for many years, but it also has a high churn rate), it shows that Temu is actively expanding its user base.



However, Pinduoduo's popularity in China is mainly due to its group buying and social attributes, and these features have not yet been launched in Temu. Therefore, Temu is now just a pure shopping software, no different from e-commerce platforms such as Amazon, so it has a general response on social media.

 

According to foreign media speculation, Temu's goal is not to compete with Wish to see whose products are the cheapest. Temu is likely to hope to subvert the current shopping model in the United States through its strong supply chain and business model .
