It is reported that Etsy recently upgraded a feature that can help sellers attract repeat customers and provided sellers with several tips.
Etsy's "Update Notification" feature notifies shoppers of the latest news about merchants (who have saved their products or followed their shops). Etsy explains: "For example, if a seller launches a product or updates the inventory, consumers will see a relevant reminder in the update notification column."
Etsy users can view alerts by clicking on the bell icon in the navigation bar - if there is a new alert, a number will be displayed next to the bell icon to attract users' attention. Etsy said it also encourages buyers to access these update alerts through email marketing and push notifications.
In a post on seller announcements on Wednesday, Etsy wrote: "While update alerts aren't a new feature, we've been improving them over the last year to make it easier for buyers to be notified about sellers and encourage them to revisit items and make a purchase. In fact, we've found that this feature can lead to a second purchase."
Etsy encourages sellers to send messages to buyers after they complete their purchases, inviting them to follow their shops. In the announcement, Etsy suggested: "Sellers can use the quick message feature in Message to send messages to buyers after they complete their purchases."
In order to appear in the buyer's alert column, sellers need to do at least one of the following:
1. Launch promotional activities 2. Send coupons 3. Add new products to the shelves 4. Restock your inventory
It is understood that Etsy has recently been working to attract new and old users. Etsy Chief Financial Officer Rachel Glaser said that the platform added 6.4 million new users in the second quarter and recalled nearly 5 million old users.
Glaser added that Etsy’s “recent churners” — users who last shopped 13 to 24 months ago — account for nearly 40% of all churners.
Etsy CEO Josh Silverman said in the second-quarter earnings call that it is critical for the platform to win back lost users.
Glaser also revealed that at the end of the second quarter, Etsy had 8 million habitual consumers, a decrease of 2% from the previous quarter and 1% from the previous year. Habitual consumers contributed 46% of the platform's sales.
In fact, sellers on every platform know the value of repeat customers, but usually cannot reach them directly.
