During Black Friday, what are the e-commerce platforms and products that consumers searched the most?

As one of the important shopping festivals in the West, Black Friday has gradually evolved from a shopping carnival in the United States into a global economic phenomenon, and is welcomed by more and more consumers around the world.

Recently, research firm Semrush studied consumer search trends during Black Friday and used this to predict how this year's global holiday celebrations will unfold.

The results of the study show that for various reasons, searches for "online shopping" this year fell by nearly 55% compared to 2020. This means that although consumers' planned spending during Black Friday this year is increasing, it cannot cover up the fact that many other consumers are not participating in holiday shopping.

At the same time, Semrush also predicted the most popular e-commerce shopping platforms and shopping trends during Black Friday based on this year's consumer search habits.

Which platforms are most popular among consumers during this year's Black Friday?

According to data from SEMrush , during these festivals, the most popular e-commerce platform for consumers is still Amazon, and the search volume on Amazon platform almost exceeds the total search volume of other major e-commerce platforms. In addition, platforms such as eBay , Walmart, Target, Ikea or Costco are also popular among consumers .

Comparing with previous data, it is found that the traffic of eBay platform is growing rapidly and has ranked second; in addition, the traffic of AliExpress has dropped slightly compared with last year, but it still ranks fourth; and the Brazilian e-commerce website Mercado Libre has benefited from the development of Brazilian e-commerce, with a traffic increase of nearly 27%; the traffic of Indian e-commerce platform Flipkart has also increased by nearly 67%.

What products and categories did consumers search for the most during Black Friday?

According to an evaluation conducted by Semrush, this year's global consumer searches on e-commerce platforms are mainly for electronic products. The PS5 has reached 18 million searches this year , followed by iPhone 11 and iPhone 12, which tied for second with 17 million searches , and iPhone 13 ranked fourth with 15 million searches .

In terms of product categories , the product most searched by consumers worldwide is laptops; and as the world gradually enters the post-epidemic era, the tourism industry is recovering, and the second most searched product is "flights", with a cumulative search volume of more than 61 million times in the past 12 months. In addition, TVs, shoes and clothing, watches, headphones and other products are also attracting more and more attention from consumers.
