Recently, Amazon released its top 25 beauty and personal care best-selling list in the first quarter of 2022. From the list, it can be seen that consumers are paying more and more attention to skin care and makeup , demand is clearly on an upward trend, and the overall market trend is relatively optimistic .
From the category perspective, as the lockdown was lifted, consumers had more outdoor activities, which led to a rebound in sales of skin care products and cosmetics. The skin care category accounted for 44% of the TOP 2 5 list this quarter ( up from 28% in the previous quarter), and the cosmetics category accounted for 28% (up from 24% in the previous quarter) . From a brand perspective, CeraVe is the winner , with five products on the list ( two moisturizing lotions are new ), more than twice the number of the second-largest brands Neutrogena and Maybelline. Acne brand PanOxyl's foaming cleanser appeared in the TOP25 list for the first time , jumping to No. 7 and ranking first in the cleanser category.
In addition, the other new products on the list are all in the hair care and beauty category, and are expected to become new " category worth paying attention to " in 2022. Nizoral 's Deep Moisturizing Conditioner replaced its anti-dandruff shampoo to enter the TOP25 list. The Wet Brush Original Detangler hairbrush ranked 25th and ranked first in the hairbrush category.
Within the Market Defense portfolio, the top-selling SKUs in the first quarter of 2022 were winter skin care products, with emollient lip masks and moisturizers like Tatcha's Dewy Skin Cream leading the way. The fastest-growing category in skin care is premium face washes, such as Tatcha's Rice Wash , which launched on Amazon less than a year ago and is now the fourth-best seller of the quarter.
Body care products achieved the fastest growth in the quarter , with performance comparable to that of the fragrance category . This was especially true for products targeting acne, sunburn, and sun protection . This Works’ Perfect Legs Skin Miracle ( for leg skin care ) grew 40% year-over-year , while Zitsticka’s Blur Potion , a vitamin supplement that lightens dark spots, more than tripled in sales.
The report shows that three brands, CeraVe, Neutrogena and Bio-Oil, dominated the top 10 skin care SKUs in the fourth quarter of 2021 , and acne patches remained the best-performing product.
In addition, the top 10 makeup products are still dominated by eye and eyelash products. Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect Mascara ranked first for two consecutive quarters, while NYX Mechanical Eye Pencil in Aqua Green (a mechanical eyeliner) rose from third place last quarter to second place this quarter. Maybelline has four of the top 10 products this quarter .
