Recall incidents are frequent, sellers should pay attention to product compliance

There are many recall incidents, and children's toys account for a high proportion.

Recall incidents are frequent, involving many categories of products, among which children's toys are a high-incidence area. Foreign countries have stricter product safety reviews, and children's products are even more valued. Toys, clothes and other products are often recalled. Recently, two more products were recalled due to hidden risks.

Nearly 18,000 baby walkers recalled

When children reach a certain age, they have to start learning to walk. It takes a lot of time and energy for parents to support and assist them, so some auxiliary tools are necessary. Walkers came into being. Parents only need to watch and do their own things, which is very convenient.

Searching for baby walkers on Amazon, Walmart and other platforms, you will find a wide variety of products, but some of them look cheap in appearance, which suggests product safety issues. Recently, a baby walker was recalled due to a choking risk.

The recalled walkers are made of wood, with wooden boards on the sides and front, colorful toys in front for children to play with, and four wheels underneath. It is like a small stroller, and children can use the handrails in front as support to practice walking.

The product was sold from September 2020 to November 2021, and was available on Target's official website, offline stores, and Amazon platform, with a price of approximately US$36.

The recall is due to the wheels and accessories on the dolly being easily detached, posing a choking hazard to children. Six reports of wheels and accessories detaching have been received , including one where a child put the metal nut in his mouth. What may seem like a trivial problem to us can become a fatal hazard to children.

The recall involves approximately 17,200 vehicles in the United States and approximately 2,400 vehicles in Canada . In response to this issue, the CPSC has issued an emergency recall, advising consumers to stop using the vehicles immediately and contact the seller to obtain free repair kits, including wheels, accessories, and installation instructions.

This is not an isolated case. When searching for similar products on Amazon, sellers often report problems such as parts that are easy to fall off, or wheels that are too tight and difficult to turn. In addition to the frequent problems with this type of stroller, another type of walker was recalled some time ago. Children can stand inside the stroller, and there is a soft seat in the middle. The reason for the recall was that children could easily slip off, causing their heads to get stuck.

In addition, a magnetic ball toy was recently recalled due to risk issues.

More than 119,000 magnetic balls were recalled and product standards were strengthened

On March 17, the US CPSC recalled 119,620 DigitDots   The 3mm and 5mm magnetic balls , with the recall number 22-101 , involve 3mm and 5mm DigitDots magnetic balls sold on websites such as ilovedigitdots and Amazon .

It is understood that magnets with a diameter of 3 mm are sold in the form of aggregated loose magnets in sets of 512 multi-colored magnetic balls. Magnets with a diameter of 5 mm are sold in the form of aggregated loose magnets in sets of 222 silver magnetic balls or 224 multi-colored magnetic balls , with prices ranging from US$20 to US$30 .

The recalled DigitDots are sold on the platform in transparent disposable packaging with the "DigitDots" name and logo printed on the packaging . The "DigitDots " name and logo are also printed on the plastic carrying box , and the product manufacturing place is shown as China.

In response, the CPSC said consumers should immediately stop using the recalled magnets and reminded parents to keep their children away from the product and contact HD Premier to return the product . After the merchant receives the returned product, the consumer will receive a refund.

According to currently known accident reports, four children have ingested DigitDots and required surgery to remove the magnets . The CPSC is still collecting more information from related accident reports.

As for magnetic toys, in fact, major e-commerce platforms and markets have long had regulations on whether they can be sold and what the sales standards are. In 2019, the AliExpress platform completely banned the sale of strong magnetic ball toys with a diameter of less than or equal to 31.7mm, and also imposed penalties on illegal sellers...

It is understood that in 2014, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission also issued corresponding regulations to ensure the safety of children when using such toys. Data shows that there were more than 2,000 corresponding accident reports at that time. On January 10 this year , the commission also proposed a new magnet safety standard, which also made corresponding provisions for the magnetic flux coefficient of the corresponding magnets.

As relevant agencies increase supervision of children's toys, the corresponding laws and regulations, product standards, etc. are also being continuously improved. This is a "precaution" for sellers , who must ensure quality control in advance and improve products later.

Recall issues are frequent, with toys accounting for a large proportion

There are many recall incidents involving children's toy products. Since the target audience of the products is children , if there are safety issues with the products, it will pose a threat to the safety and even life and health of children.

The most common problem among the recalled children's products is that when some parts of the product are damaged, small parts will be released, which may pose a risk of choking to children.

In addition, there are also some products whose chemical ingredients are not good for the healthy development of children, or the heavy metal content in the products exceeds the standard, which will cause serious harm to the environment.

However, as designers and manufacturers pay more attention to and invest more in product safety performance, the occurrence rate of such incidents is gradually decreasing. It is understood that in 2021, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission ( CPSC) issued a total of 219 recall notices , a decrease of 14.8% compared with the previous year .

Among them , there were 134 products from China , one less than the previous year , accounting for 61.2% of the total CPSC recalls, an increase of 8.7 percentage points from the previous year . The amount involved in these recalled products was approximately US$5.39 billion.

Among the Chinese product recall notifications issued by the CPSC in 2021, 39 cases were joint recalls by the United States and Canada, accounting for 29.1% of the number of Chinese product recall notifications.

It is understood that among the products exported from China to the United States , the most recalled products are electrical appliances /electrical equipment , accounting for about 16.4%, followed by children's products , accounting for 12.7% , and textile and clothing products, accounting for 10.4%.

Among the 22 recalled electrical appliances/electrical equipment products, 13 posed a risk of fire; among the 14 recalled textile and clothing products, 11 posed a risk of burns or fire because they did not meet the flammability standards.

The top five categories of consumer products exported from China recalled by the US CPSC in 2021 and 2020 were electrical appliances /electrical equipment, children's products, textile home accessories, bicycles, sports and fitness accessories, etc.

In 2021, there were 2,134 recall notifications in the EU's rapid alert system for non-food dangerous products - Safety Gate , a decrease of 4.2% from the previous year. Among them, there were 1,041 recall notifications originating from China, a decrease of 6% from the previous year, accounting for 48.8% of the total number of Safety Gate notifications, a decrease of 1 percentage point from the previous year.

The most reported products originating from China are toys , accounting for 33.5%, followed by electrical appliances and equipment accounting for 15.9%, and protective equipment accounting for 12.6% .

It can be seen from this that many categories may have safety issues, and the risk of recall must be vigilant at all times. Therefore, sellers must strictly control the quality and safety of store products to avoid the risk of recall due to product safety issues, thereby causing unnecessary losses.
