Labor disputes have always existed at Amazon, and there are often reports of employee strikes. Recently, employees at the German station went on strike again.
According to foreign media reports, Germany's Verdi trade union has once again called for a strike at Amazon warehouses on March 7 and March 8, specifically choosing Equal Pay Day and International Women's Day to highlight the gap between Amazon's "public image and reality."
The strike involves six warehouses, in Rheinberg, Vohn, Koblenz, Leipzig, and two centers in Bad Hersfeld. The union's main demand is that Amazon formally recognize the collective labor agreement for the retail and mail order industries, a demand that Verdi has repeatedly raised in the past few years.
The union said Amazon positions itself as " an organization that places great emphasis on diversity and equality . " However, the reality is that "computer algorithms" are used to determine expectations for employees, and employees' personal circumstances are ignored. The consequence is work pressure and execution pressure, which seriously affects the daily health of employees, especially single mothers.
Amazon responded by saying it offers plenty of professional development opportunities regardless of employee gender, and that it is still a good employer even without a fixed wage agreement.
The spokesperson also added that the wages of logistics employees had been increased last summer , and everyone can earn at least 12 euros per hour, plus additional expenses. " Amazon already offers good wages, generous additional benefits and excellent career opportunities in a safe and modern working environment. " In addition, Amazon also said that the strike will not affect the delivery of packages.
The Verdi union has been organizing strikes at Amazon locations across Germany since 2013 as a protest against low wages and poor working conditions.
During major holidays, Amazon will have large-scale strikes. For example, during last year's Black Friday, sellers' delivery of goods was also affected accordingly. Amazon Germany strike |
