Recently, Winter Olympics mascots such as Bing Dwen Dwen have become popular, with reports of them being sold out and prices being driven up. As a result, many sellers have sensed a "business opportunity" and are planning to take a gamble by producing unauthorized Winter Olympics peripherals.

 

However, this "little trick" is bound to not escape the "eyes" of the regulatory authorities. In addition to the customs' announcement that it would strengthen inspection measures, many e-commerce platforms have recently issued announcements to crack down on the illegal sale of Winter Olympics peripherals.

 

In early February, Dunhuang.com issued an announcement stating that the platform prohibits the illegal sale of products involving or carrying Winter Olympics-related elements, such as clothing, accessories, shoes and bags containing elements of Bing Dwen Dwen, Shue Rhon Rhon, and Olympic logos. Dunhuang.com emphasized that such violations will be centrally rectified and controlled, and the platform will punish those who violate the rules, and serious violations will have their accounts closed.

 

In fact, as early as December last year, Dunhuang.com had already issued a related announcement. The content of the announcement shows: Recently, the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee notified that the Olympic-related rights such as the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympic Winter Games logos and their mascots Bing Dwen Dwen and Shue Rhon Rhon are owned by the International Olympic Committee and the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee. Some sellers sell products that infringe on the relevant intellectual property rights of the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022. Sellers are requested to conduct self-inspections of the product information of the store (including removed products). If unauthorized, please delete the relevant products immediately.

 

It is understood that Dunhuang.com has cleared 29 related products and punished 15 sellers.

 

In addition to DHgate, Alibaba and Douyin have also recently announced similar announcements. Recently, Douyin has upgraded its models and strengthened auditing and control to strictly investigate users who posted illegal content such as the private sale of Winter Olympics tickets, improper publicity and marketing in the name of the Winter Olympics, and illegal speculation of special products for the Winter Olympics. It has reviewed and removed 1,033 related illegal videos, handled 31,470 illegal comments, and dealt with 265 users who sold tickets illegally through avatar nicknames, personal signatures, and private message diversion.
