Canadian e-commerce sales to reach nearly $80 billion by 2022

eMarketer expects Canadian e-commerce growth to continue at double-digit rates through 2023 , reaching $ 104.77 billion by 2025 .

It is understood that Canada's e-commerce growth will be stronger than that of the United States in 2020 and 2021, but will be lower than that of the United States in 2022. Data shows that in 2021, the number of online buyers in Canada exceeded 25 million, which was originally predicted to happen in 2023. By then, 80.1% of Canadians will become online buyers.

According to a UPS survey, nearly 90% of Canadian consumers will purchase international retail goods, and they are very receptive to cross-border shopping. At the same time, Chinese products are also very popular among Canadian consumers. It is understood that in the 2017 Canadian import data ranking, the United States ranked first and China ranked second.

At the same time, Canadian e-commerce platform Shopify is also the first choice for many Chinese sellers to open independent website platforms in the North American market, and the Canadian market is also one of the markets with good performance for many Amazon sellers besides the United States and Germany.

Regarding Canadian consumer preferences, industry surveys show that fashion products are the most popular online shopping category in Canada, followed by electronics and media, with market sales of US$7.07 billion and US$6.36 billion respectively in 2021. It is expected that the market sales of fashion products will reach US$10.14 billion in 2022, and the market sales of electronics and media will reach US$7.61 billion.

Secondly, due to Canada's high latitude and long winter, the sales season of autumn and winter products in the Canadian market is longer. In addition, winter ski clothing, shoes, tools, etc. are also popular among consumers!

In general, Canadian consumers have become more and more tolerant of online shopping in the past two years. For Amazon sellers, the United States has always been the first choice for cross-border sellers due to its great market potential and strong consumer power, but for smaller sellers, the Canadian market is also a good choice!
