According to foreign media reports, FedEx Logistics ' congestion diversion plan is moving forward , and the first of three self- chartered ships will transport 53-foot- long containers and arrive at the Port of Hueneme, California at the end of January.
Christina Meek, a spokeswoman for FedEx Logistics , said the chartered vessels can accommodate 300 53-foot containers , which come from China's Humen Port and contain electronics, auto parts , clothing and department store goods , which will eventually be put into FedEx Freight's intermodal network in Southern California.
FedEx had been shipping those containers empty for a while , but it began selling capacity as shippers sought to avoid congestion at the San Pedro Bay port .
It is understood that FedEx Logistics' congestion diversion plan chose the military port of Port Hueneme, which is less than 100 miles from the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach , to ensure that imported goods do not deviate from the supply chain business concentrated in Southern California.
The FedEx Express - leased vessels will be docked at the Ventura County Naval Station, and based on pre-arrangements between the U.S. Navy and the Port of Hueneme , the vessels can conduct commercial operations at the base's dock when naval activity is low .
Udo Lange, CEO of FedEx Logistics , said shippers can cut the 20-day or so port-to-port transit time by taking a detour instead of shipping their goods directly to the San Pedro Bay port .
Lange mentioned that the Port of Los Angeles can be regarded as the heart of the supply chain to some extent . Now the arteries of the supply chain are blocked and blood cannot be pumped out , so "surgery" is needed to help the blood circulate again .
FedEx's congestion diversion plan is an innovative measure taken by related companies to solve the backlog of goods on the West Coast . Driven by this plan, the import volume of Port Hueneme , which mainly imports automobiles and fresh agricultural products, increased by 13% year-on-year in November .
In response to this incident, Jason Hodge , president of the Port of Oxnard , also said that he was pleased to be able to work with FedEx Logistics to work together to address supply chain challenges and seek solutions to keep necessities moving. logistics policy port Fedex FedEx Supply Chain |
