Q3 smart speaker shipments hit a record high, with Amazon selling 10.4 million units!

As people's living standards improve and technological innovation develops, smart speaker devices are increasingly used in homes. Especially in the context of the epidemic, people spend more time at home, which also drives the sales of smart speakers.

The latest research from Strategy Analytics shows that the impact of the global component shortage has penetrated the supply chain of smart speakers. Strategy Analytics estimates that the total shipments of smart speakers and smart displays increased by 10% year-on-year to 39.3 million units. Although it is basically the same as the 39 million units in the second quarter , it also set a record for the third quarter.

Among them, Amazon ranked first with 10.4 million units shipped, accounting for 26.4% of the market share; Google ranked second with 8.1 million units shipped , accounting for 20.5% of the market share; Baidu ranked third with 5.4 million units shipped.

Among the top 50 models sold in the third quarter of 2021, 18 are smart screen speakers. Google's Nest Hub ranked first with 1.5 million units shipped, followed by Amazon's second-generation Echo Show5 and Baidu's Xiaodu at Home 1c.

Google's Nest Mini was the best-selling device in the third quarter of 2021, with sales of more than 5 million units; Apple's HomePod Mini and Amazon's Echo Dot 4th Generation followed closely behind.

Although the growing shortage of semiconductors and other components has not posed a serious threat to manufacturers, it is now facing more challenges for small manufacturers on the edge of the market.

David Watkins, director of smart home, said: "Although according to previous forecasts, if component supply constraints can be alleviated, we expect the market to achieve stronger growth in 2021. However, according to the current situation, this will not happen."

On the other hand, Jack Narcotta, chief industry analyst at Smart Home, added that although the global market for smart speakers and displays is recovering in the first half of 2021, the market development is affected by transportation and logistics challenges, component shortages, and various virus mutations in the second half of 2021. Therefore, it is expected that the market growth may not return to the pre-epidemic level until at least 2023.
