Coronavirus could 'ruin Christmas for the next five years'

According to foreign media reports, experts said that the new coronavirus may ruin the next five Christmases because the current measures to control the virus are "inadequate" .

Tim Spector, professor of genetic epidemiology , has warned Britons to prepare for coronavirus to cause major problems over the next five years.

Professor Spector said: "It turns out that even if the vaccination rate is high , it is still not the solution to the epidemic . We need a comprehensive approach to deal with the new crown epidemic, and we need to expand the vaccination program now. "

Nowadays , even people who have been vaccinated can still spread the virus among the population. We need to find ways to control the virus so that it does not cause too much loss of life and reduce the incidence rate.

The professor said that now it is necessary to combine vaccines, drugs and some public health measures to reduce the impact of the epidemic, but the reality is that this has not been done . Therefore , in the past three months, the number of confirmed cases and hospitalization rates in the UK have been high .

"So we haven't done enough, we've been complacent. The government has taken a black and white approach, and I think the public health messaging coming out of the government has been appalling," he said .

He said the UK's testing approach needed to shift to using a combination of lateral flow and antibody tests to identify members of the public at risk of breakthrough infection.

His comments came as new research revealed the number of people under the age of 18 who died from Covid in England between March 2020 and February 2021.

The study, published in the journal Nature Medicine, found that 3,105 young people died in England during that period, out of a total of 12,023,568 people under the age of 18. Of these, 61 tested positive for Covid-19 before they died.

People aged over 10 years, from BAME backgrounds and with comorbidities are over-represented in virus-related deaths compared to deaths among other children and young people .

This year, the lives of people around the world have been severely affected by the epidemic. There is a shortage of supplies and workers. Even in the peak season, people still face the threat of not being able to buy the supplies they need. If the epidemic continues to spread, people will continue to be affected.
