Recently, USPS Shipping submitted a notice of changes in shipping service prices to the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC), announcing that shipping service prices will increase from January 9, 2022, and requesting PRC approval for two postal product services focused on local communities.
Among shipping product services, prices for both Priority Mail service and Priority Mail Express service will increase by 3.1 percent, according to the document .
It explained that shipping service price adjustments vary by product. While mailing service price increases are based on the Consumer Price Index, shipping service prices are adjusted primarily based on market conditions. The governors believe these new rate changes will keep the Postal Service competitive while providing the agency with needed revenue.
If the price change passes PRC review, the price of a small flat-rate box will increase to $9.45; a medium flat-rate box will increase to $16.10; a large flat-rate box will decrease to $21.50; the price of an APO/FPO large flat-rate box will decrease to $20.00; and the prices of an ordinary first-class envelope, a legal uniform first-class envelope, and a padded first-class envelope will increase to $8.95, $9.25, and $9.65, respectively. The specific proposed changes to the U.S. domestic Priority Mail flat rate retail prices are: Overall, the retail price of U.S. Priority Mail service has increased by 4.5%.
In addition, the Postal Service is requesting approval for two new delivery products focused on local communities. First, after two years of market testing, the Postal Service is requesting the establishment of a permanent Plus One product that will provide businesses with additional marketing options.
Second, building on the USPS Connect pilot, the Postal Service requested approval to conduct market testing of a new USPS Connect Local Mail product that would enable mail delivery within local communities and deliver within two business days.
The document also includes pricing to support USPS Connect, a suite of economical package delivery solutions for businesses that the Postal Service expects to launch in 2022 if it passes review. USPS express delivery Rising freight rates |
